The 2010 post-apocalypse film, The Book of Eli, is making a return to screens but this time as a TV series with the original writers and directors still running the show.

According to Deadline, the series is still being shopped around to “select premium buyers” (ooh la la), but the original writer, Gary Whitta, is on board as writer, creator, and executive producer, with original directors Albert and Allen Hughes (a.k.a. the Hughes Brothers) also as executive producers. John Boyega is also on board as an Executive producer.

The new project is set 30 years before the events of the 2010 Denzel Washington movie, with Star Wars Boyega playing the younger version of Washington’s Character Eli, a nomad who fights his way across a ravaged, post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation.

The period of the prequel series signifies that it will likely be set around the nuclear event that caused Earth’s ecocide or its aftermath. The movie is expected to kick off in early 2024.
