A man in New York City died in police custody on Friday after he headbutted a paramedic, according to the New York Police Department (NYPD), per Fox News

The 49-year-old man had called EMS for help after being injured in a car accident earlier that morning. However, he refused medical treatment and became combative when EMS workers tried to take him to the hospital.

During the struggle, the man headbutted a 33-year-old first responder. Eventually, the man was transported to a nearby hospital where he was taken into police custody. Sadly, he later passed away while receiving medical care.

The NYPD’s Force Investigation Division, which examines cases involving the use of police force, is currently investigating the incident. The man’s identity is being withheld until his family is notified.
