A Georgia couple allegedly fell asleep drunk on a Florida beach while their young children wandered away, according to Volusia County sheriffs per the NY Post.
The incident was captured on body camera footage by deputies, who made multiple attempts to wake Alyssia Langley and her fiancé Timothy Stephens. The footage showed the deputies nudging Stephens, who had his arm around his girlfriend.
Once the couple finally woke up, they appeared confused. A deputy asked them where their children were, and Stephens simply pointed towards the ocean while stumbling in the sand. Fortunately, the children, ages five and seven, were found safe but unsupervised, playing in the hotel pool nearby.
Langley and Stephens now face charges of felony neglect, and Stephens also faces charges for attempting to flee from police and possessing alcoholic beverages on the beach. In the body camera footage, he can be seen breaking free from the deputies and attempting to run away, before falling face first in the sand, knocking himself out.
Fox reports that Stephens is not the children’s biological father but has
“assumed a guardian role.”
“And clearly these two clowns shouldn’t be in charge of — they can’t be in charge of themselves, let alone a five-year-old or a seven-year-old,”
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood told Fox 35.
