Although the news about Ryan Coogler‘s next project has been minimal, recent studio negotiations have revealed some very interesting facts regarding the potential film that is set to launch in 2024.
A period vampire film, the project was once referred to as a genre movie and was scheduled for shooting. Most notably, Coogler insists on a “full worldwide theatrical release,” indicating that Netflix may not be involved in the distribution plan.
Warner Bros, Sony, and Universal are reportedly competing for the project, with Warner taking the lead, showing that there is no turning back in time.
Reports suggest that any studio acquiring Coogler’s next movie might have to grant the filmmaker intellectual property rights, demonstrating an appreciation for original storytelling in the industry. The estimated film budget is around $90 million, adding to the growing list of vampire movies in various stages of production.
