In the movie “American Fiction,” Sterling Brown portrays the character Cliff, the gay brother of the titular character Theolonius. Cliff is a family man who usually does the right things, until he doesn’t. This role offered Brown the opportunity to showcase his depth as an artist, far away from the monotonous character Randal from the NBC series “This Is Us.”

Playing Cliff in “American Fiction” allowed Brown to demonstrate his versatility as an actor. His portrayal of Cliff was so remarkable that it generated Oscar buzz. Brown mentioned that he had fun with the role, coloring outside the lines a bit, enjoying the production process, and feeling grateful to bring the character to life.

After portraying Randal for a long time on “This Is Us,” Brown expressed his desire to explore other roles and showcase his depth beyond the stereotypical family patriarch character he has been associated with.

As Sterling K Brown continues to impress with his talent, let’s celebrate one of Tinsel Town’s finest.
