New Florida ‘Black History’ Curriculum Teaches Slavery Had ‘Personal Benefits’

A new curriculum for African American history certified by the Florida Board of Education includes a lesson that teaches slavery had

    “personal benefits”

    because it taught slaves

    “useful skills,”

    according to the NY Post

The Florida State Board of Education’s new standards will teach students how

“slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit,”

according to a 216-page document posted by the Florida Department of Education.

Tallahassee Democrat and board member Ben Gibson said he received letters from 11 organizations, including the NAACP and the Florida Education Association, accusing the state of exploiting

“key historical facts about the Black experience.”

However, according to Andrew Spar, president of the union, the curriculum is meant to do the opposite.

“How can our students ever be equipped for the future if they don’t have a full, honest picture of where we’ve come from? Florida’s students deserve a world-class education that equips them to be successful adults who can help heal our nation’s divisions rather than deepen them,”

    Spar said in a statement.

The news comes after Gov. Ron DeSantis’

    “Stop WOKE Act”

in 2022, which oversees the content educators teach in schools and workplaces.

“Gov. DeSantis is pursuing a political agenda guaranteed to set good people against one another, and in the process, he’s cheating our kids,”

    Spar said.

“They deserve the full truth of American history, the good and the bad.”

A Florida mother, Rebecca Gussage-Johnston, 24, has been charged with first-degree murder while engaged in aggravated child abuse after restricting her 2-year-old son to a booster seat for fifteen hours in an attempt to punish him for

    “acting out,”

    reports FOX

    A criminal report says,

“The victim was unlawfully caged/restrained in a table booster seat for approximately fifteen hours before the defendant released him… The defendant failed to supervise and provide the medical services needed to properly render aid to the victim.”

Prosecutors claim that on May 18, 2023, the 24-year-old mother confessed to confining the toddler to the seat at the kitchen table in an effort to punish him. The woman said the child was

    “acting out”

and screaming. Officials say although her son later became unresponsive and she had access to a phone, Gussage-Johnston, didn’t contact medical support for almost 24 hours. A relative later contacted HCSO to investigate.

The affidavit states that officials went to a

“white/tan 1992 mobile RV parked in a truck lot located in Thonotosassa, Florida.”

When they arrived, they discovered the young boy in terrible condition as he was in a bassinet under a blanket.

“Upon arrival, Deputies encountered the victim to be deceased and suffering from trauma to [his] head, a wound to [his] right thigh, and bruising throughout [his] extremity area,”

    said the affidavit.

The toddler was discovered drenched in vomit and feces. The woman also admitted to observing her toddler die. The affidavit added,

“The defendant admitted to watching the victim suffer from seizures and shaking uncontrollably… The defendant described having watched the victim take their last breath and perish in her arms.”

    Sheriff Chad Chronister said,

“The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office has unrelenting fervor in our pursuit of justice for innocent children hurt by criminals… It is truly heart-wrenching to witness such senseless and preventable acts of violence targeting our youth. The tenacity of our detectives has allowed us to ensure this woman faces the consequences of her disgusting actions.”

  • Florida Sheriff’s Office Arrests 12 Family Members Who Are Allegedly Connected To A Local Drug Trafficking Operation

Florida Sheriff’s Office Arrests 12 Family Members Who Are Allegedly Connected To A Local Drug Trafficking Operation

Last week, Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrested 12 family members across three generations in the Winter Haven area. Fox News reports the suspects have supposed involvement in a local family-run drug trafficking operation.

The joint investigation with Highlands County Sheriff’s Office looked into the infamous Rogers family because of their long connection to narcotics sales. This investigation ended with the multi-generational arrest of nine adults and three juveniles from the Rogers clan. In the raid, police seized 1,366 grams of methamphetamine, 980 grams of cocaine, 900 grams of MDMA (ecstasy), 224 grams of fentanyl, 158 grams of marijuana, 9 grams of Oxycodone, 202 prescription pills, and a firearm.

According to PCSO, the recovered drugs’ street value is around $139,000. Additionally, they recovered enough fentanyl to kill about 96,000 people.

Last Thursday, the sheriff’s office simultaneously carried out search warrants for the family’s three locations in Inwood. Investigators uncovered drugs at each spot.

At the first location, deputies arrested Odia Rogers (69), his girlfriend, Theresa Prince (59), and his daughter, Tameka Rogers (31). All suspects face drug-related charges.

Odia’s son, Rafel Rogers (39), was arrested at the second location. He faces drug and gun-related charges.

Lastly, officials arrested Odia’s grandson, Jordan Rogers (21), two unnamed 16-year-old females, and an unnamed 15-year-old male. They also face drug-related charges. However, one of the 16-year-olds faces an additional drug trafficking charge.

Investigators connected the last three suspects – Gerard Hall (32), Alpavin Tucker (36), and Dominique Rogers (28) – to the operation earlier this year. These individuals are already behind bars just like Kenneth “Pop” Rogers, who is head of the family-run operation.

“Members of the Rogers family are very well known to law enforcement and have been arrested many times over the years. They have been a cancer in the Inwood community for a long time, exposing families there to unwanted drug activity, gangs, violence, and more. We want these families to know that we’re doing everything in our power to put a stop to it,”

said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd.

  • Mother Outraged After School Ignored Bully Who Threatened To Shoot Her Daughter In TikTok Video

Mother Outraged After School Ignored Bully Who Threatened To Shoot Her Daughter In TikTok Video

A mother from Florida, Trisha Brown, is battling her child’s old school after she claims that the school failed to remove a pupil who threatened to shoot her daughter in a TikTok video. Brown said that the student was allowed to stay in the Blake Academy classroom and her child was scared to return to class. According to the New York Post, school officials

“threatened the mom with trespassing charges when she continued to complain.”

The TikTok video that was created last month showed photos of Brown’s 11-year-old daughter, the alleged taunter, and two other students placed on an image of a school’s hallway. Utilizing subtitles and generated voices, the daughter is shown mandating money from the taunter, who says

    “I said I ain’t giving up nothing,”

shortly before a picture of a water gun emerges under her face. After words were swapped, gunshot sounds began to ring as children were heard screaming. A skull emoji then appeared on Brown’s daughter’s face as her photo then overturned.

The antagonizing student also told Brown’s daughter that she would target her mom and

    “beat her a-s,”

Brown said. The mother said she was made aware of the video and requested for the student to be removed from the class; however, her demand was declined. Brown expressed what occurred at the Polk County School Board meeting last week informing people that the alleged antagonist was allowed to remain in class as her daughter stayed home scared.

    Brown said,

“No mother should have to fight this hard to have her child protected. And I hope with all the noise I’m making that no mom has to fight this hard again.”

The district later released a statement insinuating that they couldn’t discipline the other student because the incident occurred off school grounds. School officials investigated the encounter and later determined that they didn’t discover any bullying history between the students.

The mother contacted authorities and the State Attorney’s Office is investigating the case. Brown’s daughter won’t be returning to the school next year.
