  • Mother Accused Of Stealing $150K From Youth Softball League To Pay For Concerts, Sephora, and Pay Off Credit Card Bills

Mother Accused Of Stealing $150K From Youth Softball League To Pay For Concerts, Sephora, and Pay Off Credit Card Bills

A Pennsylvania police officer’s wife, 48-year-old Carla O’Brien, is accused of stealing nearly $150,000 from a youth sports program while serving as treasurer. Reports say she misused the funds for personal expenses, including concerts and shopping, from 2019 to 2024. According to the New York Post, she stole $147,400.

The Fox Chapel Area Baseball Softball Association informed the Bridgeville Signal Item, “Our organization has been, and will continue to, cooperate with law enforcement related to this matter.”

The company manages 750 children across almost 3 dozen teams.

“We respect the legal process and trust authorities to handle the matter appropriately. As this process is ongoing, we are unable to provide further comments and will continue to look for updates from the District Attorney’s Office,” they added.

The theft began soon after Carla O’Brien was elected treasurer in early 2019. Her scheme was uncovered  when she was removed from her position last July. The board grew suspicious after she repeatedly avoided handing over financial accounts to the treasurer who replaced her.

Last September, the woman reportedly admitted to stealing money due to financial struggles after a car accident left her and her husband unemployed. She returned nearly $3,500 of the stolen funds. Prosecutors say she spent the money at various retailers such as #Sephora, #Nike, Target, and restaurants.

Additionally, she used the money to pay off credit cards, per court documents.

She faces charges for theft, misusing entrusted property, receiving stolen goods, and fraud involving access devices, according to reports.

Human remains discovered in a California river have been confirmed to belong to 13-year-old Laura O’Malley from New York who went missing 50 years ago. The partial skeleton was discovered near a highway in Watsonville almost 30 years back. Initial DNA tests indicated the remains were female, but recent advanced testing has identified the remains as O’Malley, who was reported missing in Aug. 1975, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office, per the New York Post.

The Sherrif’s office said, “it is not known when, or under what circumstances, Laura O’Malley arrived in California.”

    It‘s unclear how she died.

These tests suggested she was born in the 1960s and likely died between 1977 and 1984, per officials. In 2022, advanced genetic testing contributed to identifying potential relatives, ultimately confirming that the remains belonged to the New York girl who had been missing for years.
