    Eric Adams Insists on Remaining NYC Mayor Amid Corruption Allegations

    New York City mayor, Eric Adams is being slammed with a corruption case. The Democrat and former policeman was indicted on a series of charges. According to a 57-page indictment, he was charged with bribery and wire fraud. Other charges included conspiracy and solicitation of campaign contributions from foreign nationals. Despite the accusations, Mayor Adams vehemently refuses to give a walk of shame. The Democrat insists on remaining the city’s political leader.

    Mayor Eric Adams’ Corruption Case

    On September 26, 2024, Damian William, U.S. Attorney of the Southern District read out the charges against the mayor. According to the document, it all started in 2014 during his time as Brooklyn Borough president. His cordiality with foreign entrepreneurs, particularly a Turkish politician, led to seeking “improper valuable benefits.” This included luxury international travel and other benefits. But these gifts came at a price.

    The indictment alleges that the man whom New York City trusted made deals with the NYC Fire Department. He pressured the body to debut a Turkish consular building without inspecting it. Williams emphasized that the mayor was aware of the tactics employed by the foreign personnels. Yet somehow, he played along, enjoying the goodies that came along with the relationship.

    In the early hours of September 26, 2024, federal investigators executed a warrant on Gracie Mansion. Their search was completed after about three hours in the mayor’s residence. Following the search, the mayor was summoned. At the same time, his attorneys wanted to rule off criminal charges so they met with the Justice Department. However, the US Attorney’s Office maintained that the case had to be taken up.

    Eric Adams Reacts To Corruption Case

    Before the facts of the charges circulated town, Adams made a public address. The mayor, backed by a few supporters surrounding him, confessed that he wasn’t surprised. The cop-turned-politician assured the people that he had no plans to leave office. It was business as usual. He added:

    “I look forward to defending myself and defending the people of this city as I’ve done throughout my entire professional career.”

    Back in 2022, upon entering into office, the retired NYPD captain promised to fight crime and restore the city to order. But sources confirm that there have been little or no changes under his administration. According to reports, the city still faces a migrant crisis, and subway safety issues. On top of that, the mayor’s incessant spending and frequent late-night partying has been a topic for discussion.

    Amid Adams’ resolve to continue as mayor, a handful of politicians have called for his resignation. But Adams seemed dogged, in the hope of proving his innocence. Major Investigations into the Mayor’s relationship with foreign nationals began last year. First, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant on Briana Suggs, his chief campaign fundraiser. Earlier this month, Edward Caban, the NYPD commissioner was forced to resign. The authorities had confiscated his phone following the investigations.

    Next up was Lisa Zornberg, City Hall’s top attorney who represented the mayor in legal matters. After being grilled, she tendered a resignation letter, explaining that she “no longer served effectively.” David Banks, Schools Chancellor was also investigated. Federal investigators swept through his home while confiscating his phone. In no time, Banks resigned.

    Final Note

    Amid the unsettling legal drama faced by those surrounding the mayor and now himself he remains unshaken. Adams has resolved to go down with a fight. How much good this will bring? Only time will tell.

    A tragic incident occurred in Rochester, NY, where a newborn baby was killed by two dogs in an attic while his teenage parents were using drugs downstairs, according to authorities, per AP News. Sulamain Hawkins and Anastasia Weaver, both 19, pleaded not guilty to manslaughter charges on Thursday. They are accused of leaving their 3-month-old baby alone while they went outside to smoke marijuana.

    The heartbreaking event took place on August 3, when the couple placed their baby, Sulamain Hawkins Jr., to sleep on the attic floor before going outside to smoke. The couple reportedly left for about an hour while one or both of their pit bull-type dogs attacked the newborn. When they returned, they found their baby injured. 

    He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from

    “severe trauma to his body,”

    according to officials.

    “The allegations here, we feel, support the recklessness that a reasonable person in these defendants’ situations would not have acted the way they did,”

    Assistant DA Sara VanStrydonck said in court.

    “They knew a risk and they consciously disregarded that risk.”

    Hawkins and Weaver were not arrested until Wednesday. During the week before her arrest, the mother posted a troubling mix of grief and sexually provocative content on social media, reports note. Prosecutors stated that the tragic incident happened in a friend’s rented house, where the dogs were known to be kept in the attic. This is also where the young family had been staying. The tenants have since been evicted, and the dogs have been put down.

    A 15-year-old boy is accused of shooting and killing a 54-year-old man in Brooklyn on Wednesday, police report, per Pix 11 News. 

    The victim, Darryl McMillan from Queens, was shot in the chest at 751 Monroe Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant around 3:40 p.m. He was taken to Kings County Hospital but later died from his injuries. 

    The teenager, whose name has not been released due to his age, was arrested on Thursday afternoon. He faces charges of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

    Two Women Without Shoes Ran Away From Crash That Killed 56-Year-Old Pedestrian

    Two women reportedly ran away after a crash in Queens early Tuesday that resulted in the death of 56-year-old David Opiela, per PIX11.

    The accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when a 42-year-old man’s Honda slammed into a U-Haul on Kissena Boulevard, officials said. Footage showed the U-Haul driver running the red light. Opiela was hit during the crash while attempting to cross the street, according to police. It’s unclear which vehicle was responsible for the collision. Sadly, Opiela was declared deceased at the scene.

    According to officials, two women in the U-Haul reportedly left the scene without shoes, running westbound on the Horace Harding Expressway, reports say.

    Officials are still seeking the women.

    A 10-year-old boy who was reportedly immobile and relied on a feeding tube has tragically died of starvation, reports the NY Post. 

    His mother, who had several run-ins with the Administration for Children’s Services, accidentally overdosed in their Bronx apartment. Police discovered their bodies late Wednesday after receiving complaints about a bad smell coming from their apartment in the Marble Hill housing complex.

    The 39-year-old mother, whose name has not been disclosed, had been looked into by child services for abuse and neglect, reports note. There was a time when her son was taken away from her, but he was later returned. 

    Many people, including officials, were upset by this tragic incident and believe it could have been prevented if child services hadn’t made a big mistake.

    “If you investigate a parent and return a child who later dies, that is a crime and someone needs to be held accountable,”

    an investigator said to The Post.

    “You can’t hide behind bureaucracy: ACS needs a total overhaul. This happens too many times, and one time is too much because we are talking about defenseless children.”

    A New York resident crashed a U-Haul van in Manhattan after finding a live snake under his seat, per the NY Post. Jared was on his way back to his apartment in Brooklyn with his roommate after purchasing a sofa from Facebook Marketplace when he suddenly spotted the reptile.

    Initially mistaking the snake for a large

    “toy,”

    Jared reached down to pick it up and realized it was alive.

    “Maybe someone left their toy snake in the car? So I reached down to pick it up, like what’s this?”

    Jared told the outlet.

    “It was warm and heavy. Then it turned its head and looked at me,”

    he added.

    Frightened by their discovery, Jared and his roommate panicked and started yelling,

    “Oh, f–k,”

    he said.

    “There wasn’t a lot of coherent thought at this point. I hate snakes. I freaked out. I took my foot off the brake and crashed into the car in front of us,”

    Jared said. 

    The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Canal Street and Broadway.

    “I put the car in park, and we had our feet up on the seat. At first, I thought to chuck it out of the window, to get it out of the car, but then I realized we were in Manhattan, there is nowhere for me to really put it. There are pedestrians everywhere,”

    he recalled. 

    At first two female officers arrived at the scene but

    “didn’t want anything to do with”

    the snake, Jared said. Animal control officers were called to the scene and they had to search the van in order to locate the snake. After locating the reptile, they placed it in a large, white bag before removing it from the vehicle.

    “U-Hauls are used for many things. I would have no clue how the snake got there. Obviously, I’m surprised,”

    a U-Haul employee told The Post.

    Subway musicians express concerns about their safety. Musicians, competing for performance spots at MTA auditions, revealed their fear of violent crime in the underground. They constantly feel like targets and must be vigilant, per the New York Post. 26-year-old Joshua Oxyer said,

    “If you’re doing anything like this, you have to look over your shoulder all the time.” 

    He added,

    “We’re targets all the time.”

    A New Orleans-inspired dance band New Thousand drummer, Alan Zavodsky, revealed that sometimes he is forced to avoid unpredictable people.  

    “There are so many things happening from certain people who aren’t mentally well who are interacting with us… We’ve had situations where somebody was really drunk or aggressive and started knocking over our stuff, and he got dealt with.”

    Many musicians, with various musical styles, participated in auditions for the MTA’s Under New York music program. Around 25 artists are chosen to perform at popular subway stations, but concerns about subway attacks have intensified due to recent violent incidents. Crime in the subway, especially felony assaults, has increased significantly since the pandemic, according to NYPD statistics.

    The number of train attacks causing injuries to passengers increased by 53%, from 373 assaults in 2019 to 570 in 2023. Despite the risks, musicians find playing music in the subway worthwhile for the financial benefits and exposure it offers. 

    MTA’s Music Under New York program brings music to the transit system, entertaining commuters and providing a platform for musicians. The 25 selected artists can schedule performances at busy transit spots and are recognized as special MTA performers with designated banners.

    According to his landlord, celebrity chef Madison Cowan has been able to avoid paying over $145,000 in rent, per The Post.

    For the past four-and-a-half years Cowan avoided paying for his Brooklyn apartment by taking advantage of lenient eviction laws. 

    The landlord claims that Cowan, a former champion on the Food Network’s

    “Chopped”

    and

    “Iron Chef,”

    has accumulated 53 months of unpaid rent on his one-bedroom Boerum Hill residence.

    Cowan and his family have been living in the space since October 2019. Since January 2020, Cowan has not made any rent payments and has relied on legal tactics, such as repeatedly appealing eviction orders, to remain in the apartment on State Street.

    “I’ve never seen anything more absurd in my life,”

    said landlord Gus Sheha.

    “This is why people are getting out of New York. The system is completely broken and purposely set up to punish the landlord,”

    he added.

    “I’m out over $140,000 in rent, but I still have to pay for insurance, taxes, water,”

    he said.

    Celebrity chef Madison Cowan, took advantage of a pandemic-driven eviction moratorium from March 2020 to mid-January 2022. He is known for catering high-profile events for former President Bill Clinton, actress Scarlett Johansson, and other A-listers.

    Despite facing eviction orders five times, Cowan has managed to avoid being evicted by filing new appeals. 

    Landlord Gus Sheha and his brother John, who co-own the three-story building, recently discovered Cowan’s latest appeal when they arrived to evict him.

    Cowan claimed to have received advice from the state Attorney General Letitia James and even made a call to her office in front of them. Cowan is scheduled to appear in Brooklyn Housing Court to address the latest eviction attempt.

    A urologist in Manhattan, Darius Paduch, was found guilty on all 13 counts of sexually assaulting his patients, reports NY Post. The victims included six boys, and the abuse took place from 2015 to 2019. Paduch, who worked at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and Northwell Health, would abuse his patients during private consultations. He would instruct them to masturbate or do it himself, use sex toys, and perform unnecessary rectal exams without gloves.

    “As a unanimous jury has just found, Darius A. Paduch leveraged his position of trust as a medical doctor for his own perverse gratification,”

    Manhattan US Attorney Damian Williams said in a statement.

    “For years, patients seeking needed medical care, many of them children, left his office as victims.”

    Darius Paduch is being sued by over 130 former patients for alleged sexual abuse and unnecessary medical procedures conducted without anesthesia.

    “For nearly twenty years, patients who trusted him for their medical care and treatment were instead brutalized by his degrading, sexually violating, and medically unfounded acts while the hospitals where he worked looked the other way,”

    Mallory Allen, a lawyer representing his victims said in a statement.

    “The jury verdict in the criminal case affirms that these heinous acts will not be overlooked, and the pending civil cases will ensure that the institutions who repeatedly prioritized profits over their patients will face consequences for their indifference in ignoring years of complaints,”

    the statement concluded.

    Darius Paduch, who has been in jail since his arrest in April 2023, could be sentenced to up to 60 years in prison for inducing minors to travel for unlawful sexual activity and other related crimes.

    A disturbing video captured a horrifying incident in the Bronx where a woman was violently attacked and sexually assaulted, as reported by the NY Post. 

    The masked assailant used a belt to choke the victim until she lost consciousness, then dragged her to the ground between two cars where he raped her. The incident occurred in the early hours of May 1. 

    The perpetrator followed the victim who was walking on the sidewalk at East 152nd Street and Third Avenue, cops said. Despite ongoing investigations by the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit, the attacker remains at large.
