‘Raising Kanan’ Star, Wendell Pierce, Says He Faced Discrimination When Apartment Hunting, ‘Racism and Bigotry Are Real’

Actor Wendell Pierce recently spoke out about experiencing racism in America. The star of

    “Power Book II: Raising Kanan”

shared his frustration after being denied an apartment rental due to his race. Pierce condemned those who engage in discriminatory practices.

He took to his social media, X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his disappointment and highlight the injustice he faced, despite his successful career.

“For those of you who don’t understand my righteous anger; I’m on 2 TV series, ELSBETH and RAISING KANAN. I’m filming SUPERMAN. Two years ago, I finished the fourth season of JACK RYAN. Last year I finished a run on Broadway in DEATH OF A SALESMAN. Even with my proof of employment, bank statements and real estate holdings, a white apartment owner DENIED my application to rent the apartment…..in Harlem, of all places,”

    he wrote.

“Racism and bigots are real. There are those who will do anything to destroy life’s journey for Black folks. When you deny our personal experiences, you are as vile and despicable,”

he went on to add. The entertainer shared his experience to shed light on a recent court case that blocked funding for a Black-owned business supporting Black women entrepreneurs.

The U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals controversially ruled against the Atlanta-based Fearless Fund, which provides grants and mentorship to help Black women expand their businesses. The court’s 2-1 decision deemed the fund’s contest unconstitutional, with opponents citing a Reconstruction-era civil rights law, Section 1981, as their defense.

Wendell Pierce wrote in another post,

“While I appreciate the response to my own personal experience of discrimination in housing, I only mentioned it as an example of the insidious nature of bigotry. This court decision is profoundly more disturbing and injurious. CALL TO ACTION.”

And followed up in another post,

“SYSTEMATIC RACISM IS A CHRONIC DEBILITATING AND DESTRUCTIVE FORCE IN AMERICA. To ignore it is revisionist history. All progress in this country is because of those people of goodwill who fight against it and illuminate it. The Fearless Fund Case is a perfect example.”

Colorado Man Narrowly Escapes Being Shot Thanks To His Necklace, Police Say

A Colorado man’s jewelry proved to be a life-saving accessory. The 32-year-old victim narrowly escaped a potentially fatal gunshot wound thanks to his necklace, as reported by CNN

According to witnesses, the victim was targeted by his father following an argument on May 28. Police reports indicate that the father, aged 66, was later apprehended and was believed to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. He now faces a charge of first-degree attempted murder.

Fortunately, the victim’s silver-colored necklace, estimated to be 10 millimeters wide, played a crucial role in his survival. The necklace successfully deflected the impact of a .22 caliber bullet, preventing it from penetrating his neck and causing further harm.

It is unclear what the necklace was made of, there’s no doubt that it did its job of protecting the person in this amazing situation.

“We don’t know what kind of metal this is, but it’s likely not pure silver,”

    they wrote.

“We looked it up … and silver is soft. So maybe think twice before you knock a knockoff. Just incredible.”

  • NYC Driver Crashes U-Haul Van After Finding Live Snake Under His Seat, ‘I Freaked Out’

NYC Driver Crashes U-Haul Van After Finding Live Snake Under His Seat, ‘I Freaked Out’

A New York resident crashed a U-Haul van in Manhattan after finding a live snake under his seat, per the NY Post. Jared was on his way back to his apartment in Brooklyn with his roommate after purchasing a sofa from Facebook Marketplace when he suddenly spotted the reptile.

Initially mistaking the snake for a large

    “toy,”

Jared reached down to pick it up and realized it was alive.

“Maybe someone left their toy snake in the car? So I reached down to pick it up, like what’s this?”

    Jared told the outlet.

“It was warm and heavy. Then it turned its head and looked at me,”

    he added.

Frightened by their discovery, Jared and his roommate panicked and started yelling,

    “Oh, f–k,”

    he said.

“There wasn’t a lot of coherent thought at this point. I hate snakes. I freaked out. I took my foot off the brake and crashed into the car in front of us,”

    Jared said.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Canal Street and Broadway.

“I put the car in park, and we had our feet up on the seat. At first, I thought to chuck it out of the window, to get it out of the car, but then I realized we were in Manhattan, there is nowhere for me to really put it. There are pedestrians everywhere,”

    he recalled.

At first two female officers arrived at the scene but

“didn’t want anything to do with”

the snake, Jared said. Animal control officers were called to the scene and they had to search the van in order to locate the snake. After locating the reptile, they placed it in a large, white bag before removing it from the vehicle.

“U-Hauls are used for many things. I would have no clue how the snake got there. Obviously, I’m surprised,”

a U-Haul employee told The Post.

College Student Charged After Forging Purdue Professors’ Signature To His Grades

A Purdue University student named Mohamed Bouftas has been found guilty of forging professors’ signatures to change his grades. Bouftas initially appeared to have a grade-point average of 3.85, but it was later discovered that his actual GPA is 1.68.
