Although the cause of her death has not been disclosed yet, Hoffner’s life was described as

    “exciting and well-lived.”

On October 1, she fearlessly leaped out of an airplane at Skydive Chicago Airport in Ottawa, Illinois, safely landing after jumping from a height of 13,500 feet. With this incredible achievement, she surpassed the previous record set in 2022 by a 103-year-old Swedish woman named Linnéa Ingegärd. The team at Skydive Chicago is currently collaborating with Guinness to officially recognize her accomplishment.

Hoffner’s skydiving journey began years ago at the age of 100 when she needed a gentle nudge to make her first jump, reports reveal. In her own words,

    “Age is just a number,”

which she confidently declared to the crowd after completing her record-setting seven-minute jump.

“Skydiving is an activity that many of us safely tuck away in our bucket lists,”

the Skydive Chicago spokesperson told The Sun-Times. “But Dorothy reminds us that it’s never too late to take the thrill of a lifetime.”

    Witnesses described Dorothy Hoffner as

    “calm and confident”

when the door of the Skyvan plane opened, revealing the Midwest landscape more than 2.5 miles below. Photographs captured her smiling as she landed alongside the certified instructor in a grassy area.

“The whole thing was delightful, wonderful, couldn’t have been better,”

Hoffner, who would have turned 105 in December, told the outlet.

According to the paper, Hoffner shared with reporters that after her recent jump, she planned on inviting her 109-year-old neighbor to join her on the next descent. She expressed that she wanted to experience riding in a hot air balloon next.

Bruno Mars Cancels Sold Out Concert In Israel Amid Deadly Attack That Has Left 1,000 Civilians Dead and Counting

Israel has officially declared war on Hamas, a Palestinian militant group, in response to an unprecedented attack that involved air, sea, and land strikes.

The conflict has spilled over to the entertainment industry, with the cancellation of singer, Bruno Mars’s sold out concert.

Initially scheduled for October 7th in Tel Aviv, the concert was indefinitely postponed due to the attacks.

Live Nation Israel, the event organizer, promptly announced the cancellation on the day the performance was scheduled to take place.

“Dear customers, Bruno Mars concert scheduled to take place tonight is canceled,”

a translated Instagram statement from Live Nation Israel read on Friday.

“All ticket purchases to the show will receive an automatic refund to the credit card through which the purchase was made. We strengthen the residents of Israel, IDF fighters, and the security forces in these difficult moments.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proclaimed Israel at war after a sudden, deadly assault by a Palestinian militant group. CNN reported over 1,000 casualties in Israel.

This tragic incident prompted a retaliatory wave of Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, resulting in a death toll of at least 900 individuals.

The group responsible for the attack, Hamas, reportedly took

    “hostages and prisoners of war.”

CNN reports around 100 hostages seized. The military organization has issued a warning, threatening to execute hostages if airstrikes hit Gaza without prior notice. The conflict stems from the Jerusalem status dispute between Israel and Palestine.

The Grammy Award-winning artist performed just two days before missile attacks struck the country. Mars hasn’t publicly commented on the war or the canceled concert but posted a prayer hand emoji on his X account (formerly known as Twitter).

Mars was set to perform in Qatar but reportedly opted out leaving DJ Snake to replace him.

  • 2 Individuals Shot At Bowie State University Campus Amidst Reports Of Gunfire During Homecoming Week

2 Individuals Shot At Bowie State University Campus Amidst Reports Of Gunfire During Homecoming Week

According to officials, two individuals were injured and transported to a nearby hospital following reports of gunshots during the university’s homecoming week, Saturday night, CNN reported.

“Bowie State University Police received a report of shots fired at approximately 11:45 in the area of Henry Circle near the Center for Business and Graduate Studies,”

Bowie State said in a post on Facebook.

Authorities have not disclosed any details regarding the nature of the victim’s injuries or their current conditions. The identity of the perpetrator remains unknown, and it is uncertain whether anyone has been apprehended as of yet. Local law enforcement is currently investigating the incident, as confirmed by the university.

Bowie State, a Historically Black University in Prince George’s County, currently has 6,408 students enrolled for the Fall 2023 semester, according to the university’s website. This incident occurred shortly after a shooting at Morgan State University, another HBCU, where four students and another individual were injured during a homecoming event. Maryland State Police Maj. Kenny Brown believes there isn’t a connection between the two shootings.

The shooting at Bowie State resulted in students fleeing and a lengthy shelter-in-place order while authorities searched for a suspect. These incidents scarred students and left them without a homecoming week, a time meant for students and alumni to gather and celebrate.

Following the shooting at Morgan State that led to the cancellation of their homecoming game, Bowie State University extended an invitation to Morgan State students to join in their homecoming festivities.

    “Together, we are HBCU Strong,”

Bowie State Athletics wrote on X Friday. Bowie State had several events on its homecoming roster such as music and comedy events, and a homecoming after party. Classes have also been canceled on Monday.

Teacher Accused Of Giving Boy Edibles and Liquor During Documentary About How Elton John ‘Became Gay’ Prior To engaging In Non-Consensual ‘Sex Acts’ With Victim

A Florida high school teacher has been arrested for allegedly giving a teenage student marijuana-infused chocolate and alcohol before sexually assaulting him, reports Law and Crime

Dmitri V. Kostyunina, 50, was taken into custody this week and is facing charges for sexual battery on a person older than 12 but less than 18 by a person over 18 and one count of misdemeanor causing delinquency, reports note. The incident was reported to the Mount Dora Police Department after a complaint was filed, accusing Kostyunina of performing sexual acts on a minor at his home.

The victim stated that Kostyunina served him chocolate that

    “tasted weird”

and wine while they watched a biographical movie about how Elton John

    “became gay.”

The victim said he witnessed a warning label written at the top of the candy’s packaging. After eating the chocolate, the victim told police he

    “felt very confused”

    and that

    “his head was all twisted.”

According to the affidavit, the victim stated that Kostyunina asked if he wanted a massage, but he declined. In response, Kostyunina allegedly gave the victim more of the edibles, causing him to feel

    “confused and under the influence.”

The victim claimed to have rejected multiple offers for a massage before Kostyunina ultimately engaged in sexual acts with him.

During an interview with investigators, Kostyunina admitted to providing the victim with

“wine, beer (Blue Moon), and chocolate edibles”,

    but claimed to have

    “blacked out”

and could not recall all of the events. Kostyunina told police that he did not report the

    “mistaken”

    sexual encounter because

    “he felt scared and embarrassed.”

High School Principal Lyle Heinz wrote a statement to students and parents stating that,

“Their employee will remain on administrative leave and off campus throughout the investigation… While we cannot discuss employee matters, please know that I take any allegation very seriously.”

According to jail records, Kostyunina was taken into custody on Tuesday evening and is currently being held without bond at Lake County Jail. He is set to make a court appearance on October 30th.

  • $12.2 Million Settlement Reached In Minnesota For Negligence After Prisoner Had To Undergo Double Limb Amputation While In Jail

$12.2 Million Settlement Reached In Minnesota For Negligence After Prisoner Had To Undergo Double Limb Amputation While In Jail

A man in Minnesota has been awarded a $12.2 million settlement after suffering severe health complications while in jail on suspicion of drunken driving, reports CBS News

Terrance Dwayne Winborn lost both his hands and experienced a heart attack, stroke, and skin lesions. His attorneys claim that these conditions were a result of negligence by officials in the county jail who failed to provide him with necessary medical treatment during his 39-hour incarceration.

“That deliberate indifference allowed a bacterial infection to run rampant within his body, leading to a heart attack … and a host of other devastating and permanent injuries,”

    attorney Katie Bennett told reporters.

Attorneys confirmed that the settlement will cover Winborn’s medical bills, which have already exceeded $2 million, as well as future care expenses. Winborn’s lawyers presented a video showcasing his struggles in everyday tasks without hands, such as feeding himself, leading him to eat only two meals a day.

“I don’t sleep because every time I dream, I dream I have my hands, you know. And I wake up, they’re gone again,”

    Winborn said in the video.

“I’d rather have my hands than anything.”

Winborn was arrested in Shakopee on August 27, 2020, for drunk driving. According to authorities, his blood alcohol content exceeded the legal limit, and he began vomiting later that morning. Despite showing concerning symptoms, including a swollen hand and difficulty answering questions, a jail nurse did not seek emergency care.

Winborn’s condition deteriorated, and he was eventually sent to a larger hospital in Minneapolis, where doctors had to amputate his hand and part of his forearm due to a severe bacterial infection. His weight dropped significantly, and later his left arm had to be amputated as well. Jail videos that could have provided crucial evidence were destroyed, and officials claimed to have no recollection of the events.

  • 21-Year-Old New York Student Sentenced To A Year In Dubai Jail After Touching An Airport Security Officer’s Arm During a Strip Search

21-Year-Old New York Student Sentenced To A Year In Dubai Jail After Touching An Airport Security Officer’s Arm During a Strip Search

A New York City college student has been sentenced to one year in prison by the United Arab Emirates, reports the NY Post. Elizabeth Polanco De Los Santos, 21, who attends Lehman College in the Bronx, was accused of assaulting an airport security guard during a connecting flight in Dubai earlier this year.

After being prohibited from leaving Dubai for nearly three months, she was later sentenced to a year in prison.

“Elizabeth only intended to transit through Dubai for six hours but she’s been there for months on end and has lost $50,000 in expenses and lawyers costs,”

said Detained in Dubai founder Radha Stirling.

In July, De Los Santos and a friend were traveling back to New York from Istanbul. Originally planning to transit through Paris, they decided to change their flight to have a layover in Dubai to explore the city.

The trouble began at the airport security when the staff asked Los Santos to remove a waist compressor she needed to wear due to recent surgery.

Taken to a private booth, female staff members not only handled the compressor roughly, causing pain to her healing scars, according to her mother, but also refused to assist her in putting it back on.

Frustrated, Los Santos called out to her friend for help, leaning past a security guard who was blocking her way.

“I gently touched her arm to guide her out of the way, then desperately started crying to my friend for help,”

    she told Detained in Dubai.

After a security guard filed a complaint, Los Santos was confined for hours and forced to sign a form in Arabic. Upon her attempt to leave, a travel ban was imposed due to the ongoing court case. After weeks in hotels, she managed to pay a 10,000 AED ($2,700 US) fine and depart following a judge’s permission. Unfortunately, Dubai prosecutors contested, leading to a one-year prison sentence on Monday.
