A man suspected of kidnapping a female University of Virginia student has been apprehended by Virginia police, reports The Post.

The suspect, 40-year-old James Robert Allen, was arrested on Thursday following an extensive investigation and manhunt conducted by the Charlottesville Police Department with the assistance of K9 units, aerial units, and officers from various law enforcement agencies. Allen, who resides in Suffolk, was found in Louisa County, not far from the location of the crime.

The incident occurred when Allen allegedly assaulted a young woman on Cabell Avenue in Charlottesville. He then forcibly took her into his car and attempted to flee, but crashed into multiple vehicles before ultimately colliding with a tree. The victim managed to escape the wreckage, and Allen is believed to have fled on foot.

The student, who did not recognize the suspect, called emergency services for help. She was taken to a hospital, where she is currently in stable condition after receiving treatment for her injuries.

“She’s a very strong woman,”

CPD Chief Michael P. Kochis said during a press conference Thursday.

He is facing charges of abduction, as well as strangulation or suffocation of another person.
