Infant With Umbilical Cord Still Attacked Was Discovered After Being Abandoned In Texas Heat Wave For Nearly 20 Hours

Thankfully, an infant, who still had an umbilical cord attached, was saved after being abandoned and left outside in a heat wave for several hours, Texas authorities say, according to the Fort-Worth Star-Telegram. An unnamed woman and man were seen on surveillance footage putting a basket outside a church in San Antonio on July 17 close to 1 a.m., reports Crime Stoppers. The pair then went on to flee the scene on foot.

Later in the day, a biker recognized the basket and went on to observe it, says a San Antonio Police Department press release on Aug 2. During his observation, the unnamed cyclist saw a leg sticking out from underneath a jacket, and once he pulled the jacket, he noticed an infant. The child was seemingly calm and officials say an umbilical cord was still present and connected to the baby.

Crime Stoppers reports that the child was covered and inside of the basket for nearly 20 hours, and the report added,

“The temperature high for the day was 110° Fahrenheit.”

Officials arrived at the scene and discovered a note. The incident is under investigation and authorities are seeking the people who left the basket.

  • Woman Charged With Murder After Shooting Uber Driver Because She Thought He Was Trying To Abduct Her

Woman Charged With Murder After Shooting Uber Driver Because She Thought He Was Trying To Abduct Her

A woman has been charged with murder after shooting her Uber driver last week because she thought he was attempting to kidnap her, PEOPLE reports.

Texas investigators revealed that 52-year-old Phoebe Copas wasn’t in danger adding that the 53-year-old driver, Daniel Piedra Garcia, wasn’t

    “veering from Copas’ destination.”

According to El Paso officials, Copas is being held behind bars on a $1.5 million bond. A relative of the driver revealed that he was sadly taken off life support.

In a GoFundMe post, Garcias’ wife revealed that he was

“the sole provider for our family”

    adding that he

“was very happy to finally be able to work and bring home income.”

The wife continued to write that he was happy to bring in income as a Uber driver after he hurt his knee at another job, which caused him to get surgery back in April.

Copas’ of Kentucky was visiting her boyfriend in Texas when she contacted Uber to take her to see her unnamed beau at a casino after he got off of work, reports KFOX14. Officials say Copas reportedly grew anxious when she allegedly noticed road signs for

    “Juarez, Mexico.”

    Officials added,

“At some point during the drive, Copas thought she was being taken into Mexico and shot Piedra.”

Officials informed KIVA that the woman pulled out a firearm and shot the Uber driver in the back of his head and wrist, which resulted in the car crashing. Before Copas contacted officials, she took a picture of the encounter and forwarded the image to her boyfriend.

“The investigation does not support that a kidnapping took place or that Piedra was veering from Copas’ destination,”

    authorities said.

It’s unclear if the woman entered a plea deal or if she has an attorney to speak on her behalf.

The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney’s Office informed Fox that the 31-year-old pleaded guilty to injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. Christian was later transported to the hospital where he was declared deceased. An autopsy revealed that he had two skull fractures. When the father was questioned by officials, he told cops multiple clashing stories, which included blaming his son, alleging that his 4-year-old son dropped the infant. A medical examiner verified that Christian’s wounds weren’t due to a fall and confirmed that the infant was struck up to three times, reports the Morning News.

“The last thing that Christian saw was his dad grabbing him and violently slamming his head… This is about giving Christian a voice. It was stolen by his own flesh and blood, his father. This sweet, innocent little baby deserved better,”
