The Weeknd has carved his name in the history of Spotify by reaching billions of streams with different songs. It begs the question, is it the artist’s creativity or these streaming giants that are responsible for such feats?

Is The Weeknd’s Spotify History Proof That Streaming Giants Affect Artists’ Music?

Having a large audience to stream content is based on how much that artist is loved. While it is important to churn out creative and acceptable songs, it is also safe to say that streaming platforms help artists and fans connect.

Somehow, The Weeknd found the hack faster than any other artist, or maybe his authenticity is to blame. However, it is the Canadian native has his chart-topping tracks as the most streamed songs on the app. “Starboy” and “Blinding Lights” both exceeded 3 billion views separately.

According to HotNewHipHop, such a feat is a scale that weighs the artist’s popularity among listeners. Not only did he rack up billions of listeners for the songs, but The Weeknd also holds the record for the most listened to monthly. He became the first artist to top 115 million listeners.

Surprisingly, the songs placing The Weeknd in Spotify’s history books are his old releases. The singer has yet to put out a fresh studio album. So far, he has produced “After Hours” and “Dawn FM,” which he termed as a trilogy. So fans can be assured that a third one will eventually come their way.

The Weeknd recently teased his audience via Instagram by uploading an image of the first two albums’ covers while leaving a space for the third. But he has refused clarity. Regardless of what’s to come, his loyalists are aware of the efforts that he injects into the lyrics, beat, and artists he features.
