The popular American Mockumentary Sitcom has been renewed for a third season which premieres on the 7th of Feb. 2024 with an hour-long premiere episode. With the series making a return in the coming month, the trailer promises a messy semester ahead of its resumption.

The series created by ABC stars Quinta Brunson as Janine, a highly optimistic second-grade teacher, and Tyler James Williams as Gregory, a first-grade teacher working at Abbott Elementary, a heavily underfunded school in a predominantly Black Region in Philadelphia.

In an interview with Decider, Abbott Elementary’s showrunner, Justin Halpern, disclosed that season three has been chosen to present a more substantial theme.

“The second season ended up talking about charter schools and the push and pull of those, and the first season was sort of about the challenges of being woefully underfunded,” he said.

“And so I think we have an idea, we’ve talked with Quinta, and I think there’s a larger overarching idea that we’ve sort of landed on for Season Three that I think is interesting and I’ve never seen it on TV before,” he continued.

The show involves a documentary crew that records moments in the professional and personal lives of teachers and staff working at the mismanaged school. Working conditions are the harshest and a majority of teachers who work there often quit right after their second year.

Since its release in 2021, the show has gained fame and amassed millions of viewers each week on Hulu and other platforms. After the conclusion of the First season in April 2022, the second season was released in Sept. of the same year and finally concluded on the 19th of April 2023. Season two ends with Jeanine and Gregory ultimately speaking about their emotions for one another. Although it didn’t go as viewers had presumed, there is still a lot of hope for them in Season three.
