Woman Killed Alongside Her Husband Was Raped By Escaped Prison Who Stole Their Yacht

Kathy Brandel and Ralph Hendry

According to the Royal Grenada Police Force, one of the three men accused of murdering a Virginia couple on their yacht in the Caribbean allegedly raped 71-year-old Kathy Brandel before they killed her and her husband, Ralph Hendry, 66, on their sailboat, reports the New York Post

According to the police, Ron Mitchell, Atiba Stanisclaus, and Trevon Robertson were charged on Thursday with

“two counts of capital murder, as well as escaping custody, breaking into a house, robbery, and two counts of kidnapping,”

reports say.

While 25-year-old Stanisclaus has been charged with

“one count of rape in connection with the case.”

The Royal Grenada Police have confirmed the charge, but have not yet provided details about the evidence or the recovery of Kathy Brandel’s body.

The couple has been missing since they were last seen near their catamaran in St. George’s, Grenada. Reports say the boat was docked at the time.

The three escaped prisoners are believed to have hijacked the sailboat, which was later discovered abandoned. Reports say the suspects reportedly broke out of a cell before hijacking the boat.

Blood was discovered on the boat; however, the bodies of the victims were not located. Authorities suspect that the killers disposed of the bodies while sailing to St. Vincent. The three men were apprehended in St. Vincent and extradited to Grenada, where they were charged and returned to prison. The men had initially been detained for robbery charges before their escape.

Brandel and Hendry, who were experienced sailors, were residing on their sailboat when they tragically lost their lives in a brutal manner.
