Man Accused of Theft After Returning Lost Wallet to Its ‘Rightful Owner,’ ‘It Felt Like Such a Slap in the Face’

A man is disheartened with the reaction he got after trying to be a good Samaritan backfired. In a post on Reddit’s “Mildly Infuriating” forum, he shared that he recently discovered a lost wallet and successfully returned it to its “rightful owner.”

Although all contents were returned, including $200 in cash, he was still met with anger. The owner yelled at him, claiming there was more money in the wallet and accusing him of theft.

Further detailing that there “were also bank cards, a driver’s license and a business card” inside the wallet. “Which was how I was able to find him,” the man said. “It felt like such a slap in the face to be called a thief after going out of my way to return his wallet,” he continued.

“I asked him why I would return the rest of it if I stole some of it, but he wouldn’t listen, so I walked away,” the man added of his interaction with the owner. “I wasn’t even expecting anything in return. I was just trying to do the right thing,” he wrote.

A student from Spelman College is behind bars following a wrong-way accident early Friday morning, as reported by WSBTV Channel 2 News. There were no fatalities however, a passenger is in the hospital with serious injuries, authorities revealed.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:20 a.m. on I-75/I-85 close to the North Avenue exit, leading to a closure of the interstate for several hours. A state trooper observed a 2012 Mercedes-Benz traveling north in the southbound HOV lane. • Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Other Cruise Ships Stuck at Sea Due to Tropical Cyclone

Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Other Cruise Ships Stuck at Sea Due to Tropical Cyclone

A tropical cyclone has made several cruise ships stay far out at sea, according to PEOPLE. Tropical Cyclone Alfred is expected to hit Brisbane, Australia, late Friday or early Saturday. As a result, cruise ships from Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and others will either ride out the storm at sea or go to different ports, as reported by 9 News Australia and Daily Cargo News (DCN).

A tropical cyclone is like a hurricane or typhoon. It forms over warm water and brings strong winds, heavy rain, and big waves, among other dangers, reports note. The Port of Brisbane told Carnival Cruise Lines’ Luminosa and Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas—both of which left from the city—that they could not dock in Brisbane as planned on Thursday or Friday, according to DCN.

Carnival Luminosa, which is currently sailing in the South Pacific, has decided to avoid Brisbane until “possibly” March 8, according to a statement from the cruise line to PEOPLE. In the meantime, the ship is “staying a safe distance from the storm to minimize discomfort for our guests.” Carnival also confirmed to PEOPLE that some trips planned for this weekend have been canceled.

“Given its current track, the storm is expected to directly impact the Brisbane area in the coming days and the port is now closed. Regrettably, we had no option but to cancel Carnival Luminosa’s 3-day cruise planned to depart on March 6. Guests will receive a full refund for their cruise fare and all pre-purchased items.”

The Street reports that Royal Caribbean has informed guests that their trip will be impacted. The Port of Brisbane announced on Wednesday that winds may exceed 75 MPH and could reach up to 96 MPH in the coming days.

  • South Korean Man on Tourist Visa Charged After Attempting to Enroll in High School

South Korean Man on Tourist Visa Charged After Attempting to Enroll in High School

An 18-year-old South Korean native visiting metro Atlanta on a tourist visa is facing charges just days after being prohibited from school campuses in Gwinnett and Hall counties.

Dongha Lee was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon at a residence in Flowery Branch, as reported by WSBTV. He is currently being held at the Hall County Jail under an immigration hold and a misdemeanor charge from Gwinnett County School Police. He was charged with “failure of unauthorized person to check in at designated location upon entering school,” according to an arrest warrant.

An incident report indicates that Lee unlawfully entered Seckinger High School on February 28 when a student opened a side door, evading standard security measures. On Monday school officials at Seckinger High School sent an urgent letter to parents warning about an individual reaching out to students via social media and inviting them to meet in person.

By Tuesday, both Gwinnett County School Police and Hall County Sheriff’s deputies had issued criminal trespass warnings against him after he attempted to enroll at West Hall High School. Hall County School officials stated that he lacked the necessary paperwork and was not of the correct age.

Lee spoke with Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson on Wednesday, asserting that his presence at Seckinger High School last week was legitimate, claiming that unidentified parents had allowed him in and that staff had given him a visitor’s badge. “I just wanted to make friends,” he said before his arrest. “I didn’t do anything illegal to them.”

Landlord Files Lawsuit Against Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker Restaurant for Over $150,000 in Unpaid Rent and Additional Costs for Restaurant

Kandi Burruss’ steak and seafood restaurant is reportedly facing legal trouble, according to The Atlanta Journal-Contitution. The landlord of Burruss’ Blaze Steak & Seafood claims that the former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star and the restaurant owe a total of $154,139.17 in unpaid rent.

In a lawsuit filed on Monday in Fulton County State Court, Montego Pacific Inc. stated that the restaurant also owes an additional $56,495.75 for repairs to the property and a 10% overhead fee, not including interest. Montego alleges that Burruss has breached her lease and will incur an extra $12,083.50 per month in interest until the back rent is settled.

Burruss, a long-time cast member of RHOA and a member of the R&B group Xscape, launched the restaurant in southwest Atlanta in 2020 alongside her husband, Todd Tucker. They also own a comfort food establishment called Old Lady Gang, which debuted in Castleberry Hill in 2017. The complaint states that Montego is giving Burruss and the restaurant 10 days to pay the outstanding amount to avoid further liability.

  • New Mexico Man Found Guilty of Decapitating Victim and Playing ‘Soccer’ with His Head in the Park

New Mexico Man Found Guilty of Decapitating Victim and Playing ‘Soccer’ with His Head in the Park

A man from New Mexico has been convicted of murder after decapitating a 51-year-old victim and reportedly “playing soccer” with the severed head, as reported by PEOPLE.

Joel Arciniega-Saenz, 28, from Las Cruces, was found guilty of first-degree murder on Wednesday, March 5, in connection with the brutal killing of James Garcia on June 20, 2021, according to Doña Ana County District Attorney Fernando Macias.

Arciniega-Saenz, who was homeless at the time of the crime, “carried out a horrific attack on the victim, stabbing Garcia 84 times with a small switchblade,” Macias said in a statement. The assailant “decapitated Garcia and severed his finger,” said Macias. Following the incident, Arciniega-Saenz went on to “play soccer” with the victim’s head at Apodaca Park in Las Cruces.

On the night of the attack, an officer discovered Garcia’s body lying in the middle of a road on the park’s north side, approximately 10 yards away from his head, as stated in the affidavit. Arciniega-Saenz told detectives that he and his wife had fallen asleep in the park and when they woke up, all their belongings were missing, leading them to believe Garcia was the culprit.

Arciniega-Saenz confronted Garcia and confessed to the police that he had taken a switchblade knife from him and stabbed him multiple times before decapitating him, according to the affidavit. He then claimed to have dragged Garcia’s body into the street and “played soccer with his head.”

  • Charges Dropped Against Trio Accused of Putting 6-Year-Old in Laundromat Dryer for Crying Over Lost Bag of Chips

Charges Dropped Against Trio Accused of Putting 6-Year-Old in Laundromat Dryer for Crying Over Lost Bag of Chips

Texas authorities have dismissed charges against three individuals accused of forcing a 6-year-old boy into a laundromat dryer and turning it on for a minute, per Law & Crime. The alleged incident took place on November 11, 2024, at the Hi Tek Washateria in Houston, as reported by the Harris County Constable Precinct 4.

However, prosecutors dropped the charges last week at the “request of the complaining witness,” according to court documents. All three suspects were initially facing charges of child endangerment. As previously reported by Law&Crime, the boy was not seriously injured but was found “visibly shaking and crying,” according to police.

    Suspects Face Additional Charges

The case against them concerning allegations of fleeing from law enforcement and possession of a stolen firearm is still ongoing, as noted in the court docket. When officers attempted to apprehend one of the suspects, he allegedly fled. During the chase, a woman, later identified as 19-year-old Life Ford, obstructed the officers’ path. Eventually, law enforcement managed to apprehend the fleeing suspect, 20-year-old Jaqory Gill, while the third suspect, 18-year-old Haven Duncan, was found to be in possession of a stolen gun.

Detectives reviewed footage from the laundromat showing Duncan forcibly placing the boy into a dryer, while Ford allegedly closed the door and Duncan held it shut. Gill reportedly paid for the cycle and pressed the “on” button, leaving the boy inside for a minute. Afterward, Duncan took him out and placed him in a laundry cart, which Gill and Ford swung around in a “very aggressive manner,” cops allege.

A witness who called the police said the incident occurred because the boy was crying over a lost bag of chips, and the suspects wanted to punish him. Gill faces charges for evading arrest on foot, while Ford is charged with interfering with a public servant, in addition to the gun charges. All three were taken to the Harris County Jail.

  • Planes Receive Multiple False Alarms Indicating Midair Collisions at D.C. Airport

Planes Receive Multiple False Alarms Indicating Midair Collisions at D.C. Airport

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is looking into reports regarding recent flights arriving at Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington, D.C.. According to the FAA, they received multiple false alerts about potential midair collisions. This comes approximately one month after a tragic incident involving an American Airlines aircraft and an Army helicopter that took the lives of 67 people, per PEOPLE.

“Several flight crews inbound to Reagan Washington National Airport received onboard alerts Saturday [March 1] indicating another aircraft was nearby when no other aircraft were in the area. Some of the crews executed go-arounds as a result of the alerts,” the FAA wrote in a statement shared with PEOPLE on Tuesday, March 4. “The FAA is investigating why the alerts occurred,” concluded the agency’s statement.

False alerts were detected on the flights’ Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), as reported by CBS News. The news organization analyzed air traffic control audio and discovered that at least 12 flight crews received these incorrect alerts on Saturday. This lead to three flights needing to perform go-arounds between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. local time.

“It’s been happening all morning. Let me know if you see anything. No one else has seen anything except for on the TCAS,” an air traffic controller could be heard saying, CNN reported. “Yeah, we got a little something there,” the pilot answered shortly after. “It said on the TCAS that it was 600 feet above us. And we didn’t see anything.”

A similar interaction took place between a different pilot and air traffic control on the same day.

The FAA states that the TCAS is a component of the Airborne Collision Avoidance System (ACAS), designed to enhance safety by decreasing the likelihood of mid-air collisions between aircraft.
