    Davido Summoned To Court Over intellectual property theft

    A U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan has summoned Nigerian singer Davido. The Afrobeats hitmaker has 21 days to answer the court’s summons. According to legal documents Peoples Gazette obtained, David Adeleke, AKA Davido, is to appear in court for intellectual property theft. The Assurance singer has been summoned alongside Emmerson Amidu Bockarie, popularly known as Emmerson, Carlos Jenkins, Matthew Quinney, and Marques Miles II.

    Emmerson is featured in Strawberry on Ice, the song involved in the dispute. Wynn Records, the recording agency that published and distributed the song, has also been named in the lawsuit. Four Nigerian artists—Martins Chukwuka Emmanuel, Abel Great Umaru, Kelvin Ayodele Campbell, and David Ovhioghena Umaru—filed the lawsuit. They allege that Davido made his soundtrack for Strawberry on Ice from their song Work without permission.

    Davido Failed To Pay $45,000 To Group

    After realizing that he used their demo for personal gain, the group asked Davido to pay for intellectual property theft. They claimed they gave him the demo in good faith, hoping to collaborate with him. However, the singer gave Emmerson the song, and the latter sampled individual recorded instrumentals and vocal elements from Work. Court records obtained by the outlet showed that Davido agreed to pay $45,000 in settlement on March 14, 2025.

    He also agreed to give the group 40 percent royalties for the underlying composition of Strawberry on Ice. Additionally, he was to pay 20 percent royalties for the sound recording. However, Davido reneged on his promise to the plaintiffs and failed to make any payments by the agreed-upon deadline. Consequently, they filed a lawsuit against Davido and others for intellectual property theft in the U.S. on April 4.

    The complainants are asking the court to grant that Davido and his co-defendants committed intellectual property theft. They are now seeking $150,000 in damages. They also seek 40 percent of Strawberry on Ice’s compositional copyright and 20 percent of the song’s sound recording copyright. Additionally, the plaintiffs have requested a ban on Davido and his co-defendants to prevent them from future intellectual property theft.

The influencer alleged that her ex-boyfriend’s actions impeded her breathing. Police arrested the rapper on March 30 after the incident. Tatiana Chanell told officers that she and Boston Richey argued because he flirted with another woman before he became violent.

    The rapper re-entered their vehicle once they arrived at their destination and hit her “several times on the left side of her face with a closed fist.” According to the arrest report affidavit, Tatiana Chanell alleged that Boston Richey also “put his hands around her neck and applied pressure.” She added that he “squeezed her throat so hard she couldn’t breathe,” so she “scratched Richey “in self-defense and to get him off her.” The experience lasted about 10-15 seconds.

    Boston Richey Reacted To Assault Allegations

    Tatiana Chanell also posted a picture of her bruises on social media and Boston Richey responded days later. The 28-year-old rapper said he would not “put his business on the internet” anymore, and people were free to think what they wanted. “But if yk me yk and you know how im coming with all this s**t I let a mf think what they gone think And Run Wit They Bs  A** Narrative,” he wrote on his Instagram Stories.

    Many have applauded Tatiana Chanell and Boston Richey’s breakup, considering the concerns about their age difference. The outlet obtained divorce papers, which revealed even more surprising information. After their covert wedding, the Un-Break My Heart singer filed for divorce just two weeks later. In her filing, Toni Braxton claimed her and Birdman’s marriage was “irretrievably broken.”

    Braxton listed their separation date as August 10—two days after their wedding—which means trouble began early in paradise. However, the couple seems to have worked out their problems. The He Wasn’t Man Enough singer dismissed the divorce petition in January 2025, and Birdman signed off on it. In a video posted on Onsite’s Instagram page, Alabama told her friends, “You guys, the house is off-limits. Only outside.” The camera panned to show a bunch of black men inside the house.

    The 19-year-old singer had invited the men to stream with hip-hop artist Jay Cinco. However, Travis Barker understandably wanted them to stay outside. He graciously offered them the use of his front porch, and Alabama and the guys moved there.

    Alabama would later come under severe backlash regarding the livestream, but it wasn’t because of Travis Barker’s stance. The musician, who is no stranger to controversy, was criticized for her lack of awareness of social and racial dynamics. The backlash came after netizens watched the rapper set up her friends for trouble. After Travis Barker sent the group out, Alabama and her friends played some games on the live stream. One of the challenges caught people’s attention.
