Parents Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter and Child Neglect After Unattended 7-Year-Old Dies in Car Crash

In a tragic turn of events, the parents of 7-year-old Legend Jenkins have been charged following his death in Gastonia, North Carolina. Authorities say the child was struck by a vehicle after running into traffic. This happened while he walked home from a grocery store with his 10-year-old brother.

According to the Gastonia Police Department, the incident occurred last Tuesday when Legend ran into the road and was hit by a Jeep driven by a 76-year-old woman. Police confirmed the driver was not speeding and will not face charges.

Legend’s mother, Jessica Ivey, told WSCOC-TV this was the first time she allowed her sons to walk to the store alone. Both she and the child’s father, Samuele Jenkins, were arrested two days later. The couple is now charged with involuntary manslaughter and child neglect. Their bond was set at $1.5 million each.

A witness, Summer Williams, described the heartbreaking moment she rushed to comfort the boy after the accident. “I just held him and told him he wasn’t alone,” she told WSOC-TV.

Despite efforts to save him, Legend Jenkins died from his injuries at the hospital. Gastonia police extended their sympathies but emphasized that adults must ensure the safety of children, particularly in high-risk situations.

  • Woman Seeks Justice After Picking Up Her Infant from Childcare with a Black Eye and Scratches All Over Her Face

Woman Seeks Justice After Picking Up Her Infant from Childcare with a Black Eye and Scratches All Over Her Face

A Toledo mother, Kendra Small, is urgently seeking answers after her 10-month-old daughter was found with a black eye and multiple scratches following a day at childcare. Small was shocked to see her infant’s face covered in at least 23 deep scratches and bleeding wounds.

The Ohio Department of Children and Youth confirms that Emma Anderson is the licensed provider running the childcare out of a private home. According to 13 Action News, inspection records indicate the facility has had issues with partial compliance.

Small was told by the provider that the injuries were caused when another child scratched her daughter. However, Small is skeptical of this explanation, given the severity of the injuries, including patches of missing skin on the baby’s cheek and eye.

Concerned for her daughter’s safety, Kendra Small immediately sought medical care, filed a police report, and contacted child protective services. As a mother of two, including an autistic son, Small is desperate to know what happened to her infant.

“My baby was crying and scared,” she said. “Whether it was a child or an adult, she was attacked, and no one notified me.” The childcare provider has been contacted for comment but has yet to respond.

Man Who Served 36 Years for Wife’s Murder Forgives Confessed Killer in Rare Reconciliation

Leo Schofield spent 36 years behind bars for the murder of his wife, Michelle, a crime he consistently denied committing. After his parole in 2024, Schofield’s story gained renewed attention thanks to Pulitzer-winning author Gilbert King. The author, who was investigating the case for his podcast, Bone Valley.

In early 2025, after a serious motorcycle accident involving Schofield and his daughter, King facilitated a remarkable and unplanned conversation between Schofield and Scott, a convicted murderer who had confessed to killing Michelle back in 2017.

Scott, serving time for unrelated offenses, admitted his guilt in a letter six years prior, but his claims were initially dismissed. During their dialogue, Schofield forgave Scott wholeheartedly.

“I forgive you with all my heart,” he told Scott.

According to Schofield, his act emphasized the power of truth and forgiveness, shaped by years of faith and prayer during incarceration. King told Fox News Digital that Schofield’s spiritual growth was crucial in overcoming anger and bitterness.

Per the New York Post, Michelle was found stabbed 26 times in a Florida drainage canal in 1987. Despite no physical evidence linking Leo Schofield, he was convicted mainly on circumstantial testimony. Advances in forensic science eventually matched the unknown fingerprints at the crime scene to Scott, shifting suspicion.

Though the state has not pursued new charges against Scott, Schofield continues to fight for exoneration, supported by advocates and legal allies. He remains hopeful for justice after decades lost.

Maryland Man Fatally Shoots Pregnant Girlfriend, Lives with Her Body for Weeks, Then Kills 61-Year-Old Clerk at Nearby Gas Station

On December 8, 2022, 31-year-old Torrey Moore entered a convenience store near his White Oak apartment. After a brief argument with clerk Ayalew Wondimu, Moore pulled a gun and fatally shot the 61-year-old.

The 31-year-old continued firing additional rounds as Wondimu lay on the ground, Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy said. Moore then calmly returned to his apartment across the street.

There, officers later discovered the body of his girlfriend, Denise Middleton, hidden under a blanket, already decomposing. Middleton, 26, was eight-and-a-half months pregnant with a baby she had already named Ezekiel, The Washington Post reported.

Authorities say Torrey Moore shot her seven times in early October. Despite traveling to other states in the following weeks, Moore eventually returned and continued living in the apartment with her remains.

Investigators later found internet searches on his phone, including “how to move a dead body without being seen.” He also asked, “How long does it take for a dead body to smell?”

Torrey Moore was convicted of three counts of first-degree murder. The victims include Middleton, her unborn child, and Wondimu. He was sentenced to three consecutive life terms. Prosecutors noted it was the county’s first murder conviction involving a viable fetus.

  • Man Sues Universal Studios After Being Stuck in a Tilted Position on Faulty ‘Harry Potter’ Ride for an Hour, Lawsuit Says

Man Sues Universal Studios After Being Stuck in a Tilted Position on Faulty ‘Harry Potter’ Ride for an Hour, Lawsuit Says

A Florida man is taking legal action against Universal Studios after he reportedly remained stuck on a roller coaster in a tilted position for an hour, per Law & Crime.

In a lawsuit filed last week in the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida, Casey Causey alleges that while on the

“Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey”

roller coaster on July 2, 2023, the ride suddenly

“came to an abrupt stop, stranding their cart midair at an angle that left him tilted backward and to the right.”

“Plaintiff was stranded in this position for approximately one hour, after which the cart was moved to an upright position,”

    the complaint continues, adding that

“the roller coaster was a defective product.”

Causey has charged Universal with negligence, asserting that the theme park had a responsibility

“to exercise ordinary care and skill to avoid foreseeable harm to Plaintiff and other similarly situated persons.”

The lawsuit claims that the park created an

    “unreasonable risk of harm”

by not addressing issues with the ride, despite park employees being aware that it was

    “defective,”

which led to Causey sustaining injuries as a result. Those injuries include

“bodily injury, resulting in pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, scarring, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, expense of hospitalization, medical and nursing care and treatment, loss of earnings, loss of the ability to earn money, damage to property, inconvenience, and aggravation of a previously existing condition.”

Causey’s injuries stem from the park’s prioritization of profits over safety, the lawsuit argues.

“[T]he defendants’ failure to fix the roller coaster, shut it down, or provide adequate warning of the potential stoppage was done out of desire to obtain money for ticket sales for the park,”

Causey’s attorneys stated in the complaint. Additionally, the lawsuit claims that Causey has lost his ability to earn income as a result.

  • NYPD Seeks Arrest Warrant for Babysitter Caught on Video Hitting NYC Kids with a Belt

NYPD Seeks Arrest Warrant for Babysitter Caught on Video Hitting NYC Kids with a Belt

The NYPD is trying to obtain an arrest warrant for a city-funded babysitter who was caught on video beating two boys from the Bronx with a belt, according to the NY Post. The incident, reported by the family nearly a month ago, has been confirmed by law enforcement sources on Tuesday.

Authorities are actively looking for 24-year-old La’keysha Jackson, who was allegedly caught on video hitting the crying children, aged 4 and 6, nearly 60 times inside their home in Morrisania on May 6, the sources revealed. As of Tuesday, officers had not yet been able to find Jackson for arrest.

If a grand jury issues an arrest warrant when it meets on Wednesday, police will be able to enter Jackson’s apartment by force to take her into custody, the sources added. The disturbing footage obtained by The Post shows the caregiver violently whipping the children’s backsides while holding their small arms to prevent them from escaping.

    “Guess what’s about to happen?”

she can be heard saying, apparently upset that the two older kids, aged 4 and 6, did not clean up their room.

    “Belt?”

one of the young boys answers. Pulling a thick brown belt out of a cross-body bag, Jackson replies

“You’re right — I warned y’all,” chillingly adding: “Drop ‘em.”

According to the family, Jackson also

“Hit the kids with the [clothes] hangers, hitting them with belts, [and] throwing the [2-year-old] baby.”

Their mother, Geraldine Jaramillo, has also claimed that the babysitter subjected the children to emotional and verbal abuse. Jackson was hired by Selfhelp, a home aid provider contracted by the troubled Administration for Children’s Services (ACS), as part of a homemaking program designed to assist struggling families in the city with babysitting services. An ACS spokesperson stated that Jackson is no longer employed by Selfhelp and that ACS is collaborating with the NYPD in their investigation.

said David P. Sullivan, the Assistant U.S. Attorney.

They all pleaded guilty to charges of drug trafficking, kidnapping, and firearm possession. Espino received 22.5 years, Young got 25 years, and Guest received 20 years.
