Oreo and Chips Ahoy Makers Sue Aldi After Supermarket Allegedly Copied Packaging

Mondelez International, a snack food company, is suing Aldi, claiming that the packaging of Aldi’s store-brand cookies and crackers closely resembles its own products like Chips Ahoy, Wheat Thins, and Oreos. The lawsuit, filed in Illinois, argues that this could confuse customers and harm Mondelez’s brands. The company seeks damages and an order to stop Aldi from selling these products. Aldi has not yet commented on the lawsuit, according to the New York Post.

In the lawsuit, Mondelez showed photos comparing several products. For instance, Aldi’s Thin Wheat crackers are in a gold box similar to Mondelez’s Wheat Thins. Both Aldi’s chocolate sandwich cookies and Oreos use blue packaging, while Aldi’s Golden Round crackers and Mondelez’s Ritz crackers are in red boxes.

Aldi, discovered in Germany, keeps prices low by mainly offering its own label products. The supermarket has faced packaging lawsuits before, including a case in Australia where it was found to have copied the Baby Bellies snack puffs design.

In its lawsuit, Mondelez claimed it had reached out to Aldi several times about “similar packaging.” While Aldi changed some packaging, it still sold others. The lawsuit also states that Aldi violated Mondelez’s trade “dress rights” for Nutter Butter, Nilla Wafers, and Premium crackers packaging.

  • Mother of Three Who Faked Multiple Sclerosis to Claim £20K in Benefits Exposed by Her Facebook Photos

Mother of Three Who Faked Multiple Sclerosis to Claim £20K in Benefits Exposed by Her Facebook Photos

A Staffordshire mum, Sara Morris, who pretended her Multiple Sclerosis left her nearly immobile, was exposed as a fraud after investigators discovered she’d been running races. She was exposed after posting about them on Facebook.

Morris, 50, began claiming Personal Independence Payment (PIP) in 2020, telling the Department for Work and Pensions she couldn’t stand at the stove or leave home without severe anxiety. Despite these claims, she regularly ran 5K and 10K events with the #StoneMasterMarathoners.

As reported by The Sun, a DWP investigation revealed Morris had competed in 73 races between 2019 and 2022. Surveillance footage showed her running unaided and without visible discomfort just days apart in February 2023.

Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard she falsely obtained £20,528.83 in benefits during the period. However, she received roughly £60,000 in support, the confirmed overpayment led to criminal charges.

She previously served eight months in prison after pleading guilty to benefit fraud. Morris was ordered to repay £22,386.02 this week or face nine more months behind bars. She must also pay a £187 surcharge.

Her lawyer, Paul Cliff, said Sara Morris was diagnosed with MS in 2005 and used running as a way to manage symptoms. He noted that the claim didn’t reflect the whole picture and that financial pressures following a divorce played a role. Nonetheless, the judge ruled her actions were dishonest and misused public funds.

  • Tulsa’s New Black Mayor Proposes $100m Trust To ‘Repair’ Impact Of 1921 Race Massacre

Tulsa’s New Black Mayor Proposes $100m Trust To ‘Repair’ Impact Of 1921 Race Massacre

According to Associated Press, Tulsa’s mayor, Monroe Nichols, announced a $100 million private trust on Sunday to support descendants of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre through housing assistance and scholarships.

Speaking at the Greenwood Cultural Center, located in the historic Black district devastated by the massacre, Nichols described the initiative as a “road to repair.” He intentionally avoided the term reparations due to its political sensitivity.

The trust aims to restore the Greenwood District, once a bustling center of Black business and culture, by directing $60 million toward building improvements and economic revitalization. Although the plan does not include direct cash payments to descendants or the two surviving centenarians of the massacre, Nichols emphasized housing and education support as critical components for healing.

Nichols highlighted that the proposal would not need full city council approval, but requires council consent if city property is involved in the trust. The city hopes to raise $105 million by mid-2026, with details about specific programs still in development.

This plan follows Nichols’ earlier executive order establishing June 1 as #TulsaRaceMassacreObservanceDay, officially recognizing the tragedy’s impact. Other cities, such as Evanston, Illinois, have launched reparations programs with direct financial support funded by marijuana tax revenues.

Though survivors have received private compensation, they have yet to receive aid from the city or state. Nichols acknowledges the political challenges ahead but stresses the importance of this work for Tulsa’s future.

  • 334-Pound Man Sues Walt Disney World Over Waterslide Injuries Despite Exceeding Weight Limit

334-Pound Man Sues Walt Disney World Over Waterslide Injuries Despite Exceeding Weight Limit

A Florida man, Eugene Strickland, is suing Walt Disney World for $50,000, claiming he suffered serious injuries on a waterslide at the company’s Blizzard Beach Waterpark. Strickland was reportedly over the posted weight limit during the incident.

Strickland filed the lawsuit last week, alleging that he sustained lasting injuries after riding the Downhill Double Dipper slide in July 2021. At the time, Strickland weighed 334 pounds, exceeding the attraction’s 300-pound weight restriction, according to the complaint.

It is unclear whether Strickland was informed of or warned about the limit before the ride. He reportedly lost control of the inner tube during the ride and briefly became airborne before slamming into the slide’s hard plastic surface.

According to the NY Post, the lawsuit blames the slide’s layout and “exhilarating speeds” for causing the accident. Eugene Strickland claims the incident left him with physical pain, scarring, and emotional distress that continue to impact his daily life.

The lawsuit also accuses Disney of negligence, arguing that the park failed to maintain safe conditions properly and allowed a hazardous situation to persist. This case adds to a growing list of legal challenges Disney faces regarding its water attractions this season.

Eleven People Stabbed at Church-Run Homeless Shelter Near Police Headquarters in Oregon

A shocking knife attack at Union Gospel Mission’s Men’s Shelter in Salem, Oregon, left 11 people injured Sunday evening, according to local authorities. The incident occurred around 7:15 p.m. directly across from the Salem Police Department.

Police said the suspect, who had stayed at the shelter the previous night, returned for another stay. As he was checking in and handing over his belongings, he suddenly began attacking staff and residents. One staff member was among those wounded.

All 11 victims were transported to a local hospital with various injuries. Their conditions have not been publicly disclosed.

Craig Smith, executive director of Union Gospel Mission, told NBC News that the violence erupted without warning. “Something triggered him,” Smith said. “It’s all on video, and we’ve given that to police.”

Union Gospel Mission’s Men’s Shelter opened in 2021 and is a 150-bed facility that replaced older accommodations built in the 1960s. A video circulating on social media appears to show the suspect being restrained by police outside the building.

Authorities have not released the suspect’s identity or confirmed any charges. “It’s still early in the investigation,” said police spokesperson Angela Hedrick.

Union Gospel Mission, founded in 1952, continues to serve Salem’s homeless community while cooperating with law enforcement.

  • Houston Man Loses Nearly $10,000 After Wiring Money to a Farm Equipment Company He Later Learned Was Fake

Houston Man Loses Nearly $10,000 After Wiring Money to a Farm Equipment Company He Later Learned Was Fake

A Houston man, Jeff Lundy, says his dream of starting a ranch with his brother quickly turned into a nightmare after he was duped out of $9,000 by a phony company.

Lundy, 63, spotted a Facebook ad from a business called Stonewall Farm Equipment offering a tractor at an appealing price. Excited to get started, Lundy contacted the seller, received a formal invoice, and wired the money. That was the last he heard from them.

“I really thought it was legit,” Lundy said, according to Click2Houston. “We had a good conversation, they sent the paperwork, and I followed their instructions. But after that, nothing.”

When the tractor never showed up and calls went unanswered, Lundy tried contacting the number using a different phone. The person answered, then hung up. The company’s listed address led to a residential home, not a business.

KPRC’s Joy Addison tried the number herself; it was disconnected. Lundy contacted his bank, hoping to trace the wire sent to a Wells Fargo account, but no ownership details were available.

The Harris County Attorney’s Office urges buyers to verify sources, use secure payment methods, and report suspicious activity. Despite the setback, Jeff Lundy remains determined. “I’m not letting this go,” he said. “I want justice.”

  • Chicago Museum Director Stripped Naked on Flight While Drunk — But Keeps His $1M Position

Chicago Museum Director Stripped Naked on Flight While Drunk — But Keeps His $1M Position

The director of the Art Institute of Chicago was arrested in Germany last month for drunkenly stripping naked on a United Airlines flight, as reported by the NY Post. However, he will resume his position following an internal review.

James Rondeau is scheduled to return to work on Monday after the embarrassing incident on April 18 led him to take a voluntary leave from the prestigious museum, where he earns more than $1 million annually.

“I deeply regret this incident and the impact it has had on the museum and me and on my colleagues,”

Rondeau said in a statement to CBS News.

“I have dedicated the past 27 years of my professional career to the Art Institute and I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue furthering its mission.”

Rondeau was on a flight from Chicago to Munich when he was arrested after landing for allegedly taking off his clothes during the flight while under the influence of alcohol and prescription drugs.

This embarrassing incident led the museum to start an independent investigation while he was away. Despite the controversy, museum officials believe he can continue to lead the organization.

“Board leadership of the Art Institute of Chicago has conducted an independent investigation of this incident and is confident in James Rondeau’s leadership and ability to continue as the President and Director of the museum,”

a spokesperson for the institution told the outlet.

  • GoFundMe for Teen Who Returned to Burger King Shift Just Hours After Graduation Surges to $130K

GoFundMe for Teen Who Returned to Burger King Shift Just Hours After Graduation Surges to $130K

A woman came across a Georgia teenager, Mykale Baker, working at Burger King just hours after his high school graduation, still wearing his graduation stole and medal. Inspired by their encounter, the woman started a fundraiser that has now surpassed its initial goal by more than double, with donations continuing to rise, as reported by the NY Post.

This remarkable story began when fundraising organizer Maria Mendoza met the 18-year-old during his evening shift at Burger King.

“He was so kind, so polite,”

    Mendoza told the outlet.

“Radiating joy, even after such a big day. His dedication and quiet strength really moved me. I felt called to do something to recognize that.”

Mendoza took action by launching a fundraiser for Baker called

“From Burger King to a College Dream,”

    sharing his story on TikTok

    “without thinking,”

she said. Remarkably, the online campaign reached its goal within just 10 days of its launch. In the initial days, thousands of dollars poured in, but as the touching story spread across social media and news outlets, donations skyrocketed to six figures, far exceeding the $60,000 target. Many of the contributors were strangers, united by their support.

A few days later, Mendoza returned to the restaurant to share the astonishing news of the donations, which had surged to nearly $130,000 by Saturday afternoon. Mykale Baker was brought to tears by the generosity and filled with excitement as he contemplated his dream of pursuing higher education.

    “I feel happy,”

Baker, 18, said in an interview with 11 Alive this week.

“I just want to say thank you to my parents and all the people that see the good in me and believe in me, and donated all that money to me.”

Baker proudly walked across the stage on May 21 during his graduation ceremony at Mills Creek High School. However, he expressed his concerns about what lay ahead after graduation due to financial limitations, although he was hopeful about attending a trade school.

“I’m just grateful I got to do something for him,”

    Mendoza said.

  • Man Sentenced To 30 Years Behind Bars After Sexually Assaulting 6 Of His Adopted Children

Man Sentenced To 30 Years Behind Bars After Sexually Assaulting 6 Of His Adopted Children

A man from East Texas received a 30-year prison sentence after admitting to sexually assaulting his adopted children. In 2018, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office started looking into Kevin Ray Larsson when one of his adopted kids said he had abused her at just 5 years old, according to KETK Tyler.

After pleading guilty, Larsson was sentenced to 30 years behind bars and fined $2,800. He is banned from contacting his nine adopted children, who are protected by a lifetime order. He must also register as a sex offender. Angela Albers, the Wood County District Attorney highlighted the case’s tragic impact on the victims.

Alberts said, “This case is a horrible tragedy for these children. They were adopted by this man and he was supposed to care for, provide for, and nurture them—instead, he turned into a monster and committed heinous actions against them that they are still suffering the effects of to this day. My office had numerous conversations with the victims and the victims’ mother and discussed the probability of the children being retraumatized by the effects of having to testify against the Defendant in a jury trial.”
