Meth-Crazed Florida Man Survived Being Bitten by an Alligator, Only to Be Fatally Shot After Charging at Officers Who Were Trying to Help Him

A bizarre and deadly encounter unfolded in Lakeland, Florida, when 42-year-old Timothy Schulz, high on methamphetamine, survived an alligator bite. He was fatally shot by deputies moments later, according to local authorities.

Schulz was seen swimming in a lake notorious for gator sightings early Monday morning. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd told Fox News, and it was later reported by The New York Post.

Good Samaritans attempted to help him by throwing a life vest, but Schulz reportedly growled at them. Moments later, an alligator clamped down on his right arm.

Despite the injury, Schulz emerged from the water and allegedly stole a pair of garden shears from a nearby property. As deputies arrived, he charged at them.

Efforts to subdue him with a stun gun failed, authorities said. “He was not in his right mind,” Sheriff Judd remarked. “If you’re on enough meth, you’re not seeing reality.”

Schulz then attempted to enter a patrol car and reach for a deputy’s firearm, prompting officers to open fire. He died at the scene.

Records show Timothy Schulz had recently been released from jail following a drug arrest on May 20. The deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave as an investigation continues.

Woman Arrested After Allegedly Beating Man and Leaving Him on Roadway, Where He Was Later Struck and Killed by Passing Cars, Police Say

A Louisiana woman, Tonnisha Mitchell, has been arrested after allegedly attacking a man and leaving him on a busy road, where he was later struck and killed by oncoming vehicles.

Mitchell, 43, faces charges of manslaughter and second-degree battery in the death of Gene Hill Jr., 42, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed in a statement released on Facebook.

Deputies responded to a fatal collision involving a pedestrian on Opelousas Street in Lake Charles on May 23. Their investigation revealed that Hill had been a passenger in Mitchell’s car when the two began arguing.

Witnesses told investigators that both exited the vehicle, and Mitchell then allegedly beat Hill with a bat, striking him in the head and body until he collapsed.

Mitchell is accused of leaving the scene while Hill remained on the roadway, unable to move. Shortly after, he was hit by two vehicles and died from his injuries.

Authorities allege Tonnisha Mitchell tried to dispose of evidence at various locations. She was arrested two days later at her home and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. Her bond has not yet been set.

The Sheriff’s Office has not provided further comment. The case was first reported by PEOPLE and is still under investigation.

  • Trump Accuses Harvard of ‘Judge Shopping’ And Threatens to Redirect $3 Billion Of Its Federal Grants to US Trade Schools

Trump Accuses Harvard of ‘Judge Shopping’ And Threatens to Redirect $3 Billion Of Its Federal Grants to US Trade Schools

President Donald Trump has renewed his attacks on Harvard University, accusing the school of “judge shopping” amid ongoing lawsuits with the administration. On Monday, Trump threatened to withdraw $3 billion in federal grants from Harvard.

Trump criticized the university’s response to anti-Israel protests and suggested the funds be redirected to trade schools instead. Harvard President Alan Garber countered, telling NPR that cutting the funding would harm important government-backed research.

“Federal grants support work the government requests,” Garber explained. “If the money is shifted, that work simply won’t happen.”

The dispute escalates during Harvard’s spring commencement week, following a recent federal move to block Harvard from enrolling international students, about 27% of its student body. This block was quickly overturned by a judge after Harvard sued the administration.

Additionally, Harvard University filed a lawsuit over the administration’s decision to freeze $2.2 billion in funding, which was later partially cut by another $450 million. The White House also threatened to revoke Harvard’s tax-exempt status amid the fight.

U.S. District Judge Allison Dale Burroughs, who has previously ruled in favor of Harvard in high-profile cases, is overseeing the litigation. Trump criticized the university for choosing her, accusing it of seeking a favorable judge.

The case is set for a hearing later this week, coinciding with Harvard’s graduation ceremonies near the federal courthouse.

  • Cargo Ship Driver Responsible for Crashing Into a Man’s Yard Fell Asleep at the Wheel, Police Say

Cargo Ship Driver Responsible for Crashing Into a Man’s Yard Fell Asleep at the Wheel, Police Say

A cargo ship narrowly missed crashing into a retiree’s home in Byneset, near Trondheim, Norway, after a crew member fell asleep while on duty, authorities revealed. The incident occurred early on May 22, when the 440-foot-long vessel, the NCL Salten, accidentally veered off course. As a result, the vessel collided with the homeowner’s backyard.

The second officer aboard the ship has been charged with negligent navigation, according to prosecutor Kjetil Bruland Sørensen. This was reported by the Associated Press on May 26. The officer admitted to falling asleep before the incident, a rare but critical error, Sørensen told The New York Times.

Homeowner Johan Helberg was asleep when the ship struck his property around 5 a.m. He was soon awakened by his neighbor, Jostein Jorgensen. “It was completely surreal,” Helberg said, adding that if the ship had been just five meters further, it would have crashed into his bedroom. His account was shared by Norway’s NRK and the BBC.

Jorgensen described being shocked and struggling to wake Helberg after witnessing the unusual event, as reported by BBC and TV2. Efforts by a salvage company and tug boats to remove the ship from the property were unsuccessful as of the evening of May 22, according to The New York Times.

No injuries occurred, and around 16 crew members were on board at the time. The investigation continues. Norwegian Cruise Line confirmed to PEOPLE that the cargo ship is not connected to their company.

  • Disgraced Former Police Chief Serving 80 Years Breaks Out of Arkansas Prison Dressed as a Cop

Disgraced Former Police Chief Serving 80 Years Breaks Out of Arkansas Prison Dressed as a Cop

Authorities in Arkansas are searching for Grant Hardin, a former police chief convicted of both murder and rape, after he escaped from the North Central Unit prison in Calico Rock on Sunday. According to the Arkansas Department of Corrections, Hardin fled while dressed in a fake law enforcement uniform. However, officials have not revealed how he managed the escape.

Hardin previously served as police chief of Gateway, a small town near the Arkansas-Missouri border, in 2016. In 2017, he pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting of James Appleton. At the time, the 59-year-old was a Gateway water department employee.

As reported by CNN and local affiliate KHBS, Appleton was shot in the head while speaking with then-Mayor Andrew Tillman. His body was later discovered in a car near Garfield, Arkansas. Hardin received a 30-year sentence for Appleton’s murder.

During that investigation, DNA evidence also linked him to a 1997 rape case in Rogers involving an elementary school teacher. After two decades without a suspect, Hardin’s DNA, collected during the murder probe, matched evidence from the rape, according to KHBS. He pleaded guilty to the rape in 2019 and was sentenced to an additional 50 years.

State and federal law enforcement agencies are now working together to locate Grant Hardin. The Arkansas Division of Correction urges the public to report any sightings.
