Parolee Who Shoved Woman onto Tracks a Decade Ago Now Accused of Attacking 28-Year-Old Woman for Refusing to Swipe Him into Subway with Her MetroCard

42-year-old homeless man, Rolan Reid, on parole for a notorious subway hate crime, was arrested Sunday after attacking a woman at a Manhattan train station, according to police and New York Post reports.

The suspect approached a woman at the 14th Street B/D/F station around 2:45 p.m. and asked her to swipe him into the system with her MetroCard. When she refused, police say Reid hit her with a metal rod and punched her.

The 28-year-old victim was treated at Bellevue Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Officers from Transit District Two arrested Reid at the scene. Authorities charged him with assault, weapons possession, and possession of a forged instrument.

Also, 14 altered MetroCards were recovered. Reid remains on parole until 2028 due to a 2015 hate crime conviction. In that case, he assaulted a transgender woman at the Bleecker Street station, shoving her onto the tracks after shouting slurs.

She was rescued by bystanders and survived. Police say Rolan Reid has a lengthy record, with 20 prior arrests, many involving the subway system.

Also Sunday, in Brooklyn, three teens robbed a 14-year-old boy at the Avenue U Q train station. No injuries were reported, and suspects remain at large.

  • LA Family Sues Cemetery After Mourning at Empty Grave for Four Years Due to Misplaced Headstone

LA Family Sues Cemetery After Mourning at Empty Grave for Four Years Due to Misplaced Headstone

For nearly four years, the Demirchayn family grieved at what they believed was the grave of their beloved matriarch, Hasmik Demirchayn, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Los Angeles. Tragically, reports from NBC4 Los Angeles reveal they had been visiting an empty plot due to a headstone being placed incorrectly.

Hasmik, who escaped the Soviet Union in the 1980s seeking a better life, died of a heart attack in 2021. Demirchayn’s children buried her in a family plot they had purchased years earlier.

Marine, her daughter, told NBC4 how she felt devastated upon learning the truth: “It felt like losing her all over again… We were just talking to an empty spot.”

The mistake only came to light this April during the funeral of Hasmik’s husband, when a mortician informed the family that her headstone marked the wrong grave. According to KTLA, her marker was on “space 1,” while her body rested in “space 2,” one plot over.

Feeling betrayed, the family has sued Forest Lawn Mortuary and Forest Lawn Memorial Park Association for negligence, fraud, and emotional distress, PEOPLE reported. Their attorney highlighted that fixing the error didn’t undo years of misplaced mourning.

Hasmik’s grandson told KTLA, “This adds an extra layer of hurt and pain,” underscoring the family’s ongoing grief and heartbreak.

12-Year-Old Boy Sets Three Cars on Fire in a Span of Six Days, Police Say

A Kenosha family is reeling after their only vehicle was destroyed in a suspected arson fire, one of three reportedly set by a 12-year-old boy in less than a week. Scott and Shai-linn Wieszchowski were startled awake early Sunday, June 1, by a loud banging at their door.

“Someone was yelling that our car was on fire,” Scott told FOX6 News Milwaukee. “I looked out the window and saw flames everywhere, shooting into the trees, hitting the garage.”

The fire scorched their garage and completely destroyed their vehicle. With five children and busy schedules, the Wieszchowskis say losing the car has made everyday life a struggle.

“We feel trapped,” Shai-linn told CBS 58. “We can’t just hop in the car to get groceries or take the kids to school.”

Police say the family’s car was the third intentionally set on fire in the area around 30th Avenue and 40th Street. The 12-year-old has reportedly confessed and is now facing multiple felony charges. His charges include three counts of arson and five counts of property damage.

“It could’ve been our house,” Scott said. “It makes me sick thinking about what could have happened.” The family has set up a GoFundMe to help with recovery costs.

  • “I Think I Killed Her: 23-Year-Old Man Charged with Murder After He Allegedly Killed His Grandmother Using a Hammer and Stole Her Car

“I Think I Killed Her: 23-Year-Old Man Charged with Murder After He Allegedly Killed His Grandmother Using a Hammer and Stole Her Car

23-year-old Tennessee man, Kerrien Dates, has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly killing his grandmother with a hammer and stealing her car. According to Fox 13 Memphis, WREG, and the Charlotte Observer, Kerrien was arrested in Jackson, about 90 miles from the Memphis home he shared with his grandmother, Sonya Dates.

Authorities say Kerrien was pulled over on June 4 while driving Sonya’s 2020 Chevrolet Camaro. When questioned, he allegedly admitted, “I hit Sonya in the head with a hammer and I think I killed her.”

Memphis Police said Sonya’s body was discovered by her daughter, Kerrien’s mother, around 4:30 p.m. that day. The 58-year-old was found lying on the floor with a hammer nearby and visible head trauma.

According to an affidavit cited by the Observer, Sonya still had her backpack and lunch bag on. Having her bag on her indicated that she had just returned home from work.

The affidavit notes that Kerrien had been living with Sonya, but recent arguments led her to ask him to leave for safety reasons. She suffered four blunt force injuries to the back of her head and was pronounced dead at the scene.

After issuing a stolen vehicle alert, police located Kerrien in Jackson and took him into custody. He was booked into Shelby County Jail and is expected in court on June 9.

Fired Over OnlyFans, Ex-Teacher Takes Parent and School to Court

Elena Maraga, a 29-year-old former Catholic nursery teacher in northern Italy, is taking legal action after being dismissed over her adult content on OnlyFans. The controversy erupted when a father of one of her students allegedly discovered her explicit account. Then he went on to share the images in a football group chat.

The man’s wife reportedly alerted school authorities, sparking Maraga’s suspension and eventual firing. Church officials claimed her online presence clashed with the school’s religious values.

Despite her pleas to keep her job, her contract was terminated “for just cause,” according to school statements. Speaking to Il Messaggero, Maraga expressed outrage, noting that many who criticized her were also paying subscribers. “Who is truly immoral?” she asked. “I’ve done nothing illegal.”

She’s now suing the parent for leaking private subscriber content and has filed complaints against three social media users for defamation. In a separate legal battle, Maraga seeks compensation for what she believes was an unjust dismissal.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Italian education officials hinted at a forthcoming code of ethics for teachers on adult platforms. Elena Maraga holds a degree in Educational Sciences and maintains: “I loved teaching, but I also have the right to live freely outside the classroom.”

‘Never Quit’: Woman Earns Master’s Degree While Battling Stage IV Breast Cancer

Over 800 graduates filled the Mid-America Center this weekend to celebrate Bellevue University’s 2025 commencement. Among them was Starr Shamp, who has overcome extraordinary challenges to earn her degree.

In 2018, just before turning 28, Shamp was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. “It came out of nowhere,” she told WOWT 6 News. At the time, she was working full-time in Illinois, but the diagnosis inspired a life change.

Shamp noticed a lack of long-term care support for people living with chronic illness and decided to pursue a counseling career. She enrolled in Bellevue University’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling master’s program in 2021, all while undergoing regular treatments.

During this period, she got married, faced a surprise pregnancy, and delivered her son Harrison six weeks early due to a medical complication. He spent two weeks in the NICU but is now healthy.

Despite taking just one term off, she pressed on with the support of loved ones. “It felt like I always had a hug,” she said. On Saturday, Starr Shamp addressed her fellow graduates as the student commencement speaker.

Still receiving treatments every three weeks, she’s preparing to work as a licensed professional counselor in Illinois.

  • ICE Accidentally Detains Marshals Deputy Who ‘Fit the General Description’ of an Intended Person

ICE Accidentally Detains Marshals Deputy Who ‘Fit the General Description’ of an Intended Person

Immigration agents temporarily detained a deputy from the U.S. Marshals Service last month as he was entering a federal building that contains the immigration court in Tucson, Arizona, according to Huff Post.

The Marshals Service confirmed to the Arizona Daily Star on Thursday that a deputy

“who fit the general description of a subject being sought by ICE was briefly detained at a federal building in Tucson after entering the lobby of the building.”

The Marshals Service is responsible for enforcing the law in federal courts, safeguarding judges, and apprehending fugitives, reports note.

“The Deputy US Marshal’s identity was quickly confirmed by other law enforcement officers, and he exited the building without incident,”

the Marshals Service told the Arizona Daily Star. It’s unclear what the Marshals Service meant by stating that the deputy

    “fit the general description”

of an individual being sought by ICE. However, President Donald Trump’s aggressive mass deportation policy has sparked worries about racial profiling. Legal residents and U.S. citizens, including Native Americans, have all faced stops by ICE.

Last week, Axios reported on a meeting between Trump administration officials Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem, where they aimed to arrest 3,000 people daily. Noah Schramm from the ACLU of Arizona told the Arizona Daily Star that the limited information about the deputy’s incident highlights how the Trump administration’s arrest quotas are leading to more mistakes.

“It is not surprising that there would be these cases that the wrong person is detained,”

    Schramm said.

“I think it reflects that they are trying to get numbers and that they are OK violating basic principles and basic procedures that are meant to protect people and make sure the wrong people don’t get picked up.”

Chicago Police Say Officer Was ‘Unintentionally’ Shot and Killed by Partner During Foot Pursuit

A Chicago police officer has sadly lost her life after being accidentally shot by her partner during a pursuit of a suspect, as reported by the NY Post.

Krystal Rivera, 36, a four-year veteran of the force, was

    “unintentionally”

shot shortly before 10 p.m. on Thursday. Rivera’s tactical unit attempted to stop an individual believed to be armed, leading to a chase that ended in an apartment, where they confronted another individual carrying a rifle, according to officials. Authorities later discovered three firearms at the scene, police confirmed.

The partner was the only one who discharged a firearm, and according to a statement from city police on Friday, the

    “gunfire unintentionally struck Officer Rivera.”

An autopsy confirmed that she was shot in the back. Rivera passed away at the hospital late Thursday, less than an hour after the shooting. She is survived by her 10-year-old daughter.

When her colleagues transported her to the hospital in a squad car, the vehicle crashed and caught fire due to a malfunction, as reported by Police Superintendent Larry Snelling. She was then taken to the hospital in a different squad car. Police reported that the individual accused of brandishing the rifle has been taken into custody, although they did not specify the charges that may be filed against them.

  • Teen Arrested For Driving At 132 MPH, Says He Couldn’t Stop Because ‘He Was Late For A Job Interview’

Teen Arrested For Driving At 132 MPH, Says He Couldn’t Stop Because ‘He Was Late For A Job Interview’

A man learned the hard way that he should give himself enough time for a job interview after being chased by officials and later apprehended for speeding. Azmir Djurkovic, 19, turned himself in to Connecticut State officials after they caught him going over 130 MPH on Interstate 91 South, per PEOPLE.

A cop saw a Mercedes E300 speeding faster than the traffic flow. The officer estimated it was going over 100 MPH, then later confirmed at about 132 MPH. The driver made unsafe lane changes, forcing the officer to stop the chase for safety. Officials later identified the driver as Azmir Djurkovic and then “made contact.”

Reports said he allegedly confessed to “driving and stated he did not stop because he was late for a job interview.”

Djurkovic met officials at Troop H in Hartford and was then arrested without any problems. He faces several charges, including reckless driving and interfering with an officer. Released on a $2,500 bond, he must appear in Middletown Superior Court on June 17. If you’re wondering, it’s unclear if he landed the job.
