42-year-old homeless man, Rolan Reid, on parole for a notorious subway hate crime, was arrested Sunday after attacking a woman at a Manhattan train station, according to police and New York Post reports.
The suspect approached a woman at the 14th Street B/D/F station around 2:45 p.m. and asked her to swipe him into the system with her MetroCard. When she refused, police say Reid hit her with a metal rod and punched her.
The 28-year-old victim was treated at Bellevue Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Officers from Transit District Two arrested Reid at the scene. Authorities charged him with assault, weapons possession, and possession of a forged instrument.
Also, 14 altered MetroCards were recovered. Reid remains on parole until 2028 due to a 2015 hate crime conviction. In that case, he assaulted a transgender woman at the Bleecker Street station, shoving her onto the tracks after shouting slurs.
She was rescued by bystanders and survived. Police say Rolan Reid has a lengthy record, with 20 prior arrests, many involving the subway system.
Also Sunday, in Brooklyn, three teens robbed a 14-year-old boy at the Avenue U Q train station. No injuries were reported, and suspects remain at large.
