  • Texas Man Charged with Murder for Allegedly Spiking Pregnant Girlfriend’s Drink with Abortion Pill

Texas Man Charged with Murder for Allegedly Spiking Pregnant Girlfriend’s Drink with Abortion Pill

A Texas man, Justin Anthony Banta, has been charged with capital murder and evidence tampering after allegedly slipping an abortion pill into his pregnant girlfriend’s drink without her consent, according to CBS News.

Authorities say the incident unfolded after Banta’s former girlfriend revealed her pregnancy last year. Although Banta reportedly offered to pay for an abortion, she declined, expressing her intention to keep the baby.

According to a statement from the Parker County Sheriff’s Office, the woman was six weeks pregnant when a doctor confirmed the fetus had a healthy heartbeat. Later that day, she met Banta at a coffee shop. Soon after, she experienced severe bleeding and later miscarried. She later told investigators she suspected Banta had drugged her beverage.

Detectives say Justin Anthony Banta, an IT employee at the U.S. Department of Justice, encouraged ordering the Plan C abortion drug online. After a police interview, investigators seized his phone but discovered key data had been wiped. Authorities believe he remotely accessed the device and performed a reset.

According to CBS, an arrest warrant was issued, and Justin Anthony Banta was taken into custody. The investigation remains ongoing. Texas, known for its strict abortion laws, criminalizes nearly all abortions, with limited exceptions for medical emergencies.

A 23-year-old Michigan man, John Charles Robinson of Monroe, was arrested after calling in a false bomb threat to Spirit Airlines’ Flight 2145 at Detroit Metropolitan Airport, according to the Eastern District of Michigan United States Attorney’s Office.

The incident occurred on Thursday at 6:25 a.m. when Robinson, upset after missing his Los Angeles-bound flight and being told to rebook, used his cellphone to claim a bomb falsely was on board.

He described an individual allegedly planning to “blow up the airport” and said the explosive would evade TSA detection. He urged officials to stop the flight.

The threat prompted the immediate cancellation of Flight 2145, with passengers and crew evacuated for safety. Per ABC News, FBI agents and bomb-sniffing dogs swept the plane but found no explosives.

Investigators traced the call to Robinson, who returned to the airport for another flight. After his arrest, he admitted to making the call and consented to a search of his phone. Robinson faces charges for conveying false information about an explosive and for hoaxes.

Man Arrested for Pulling Gun Out on Restaurant Staff Over Dispute About the Bill

A man from Daytona Beach was arrested for allegedly waving a gun inside a restaurant and pointing it at four employees during a dispute over a bill, according to Ormond Beach police and the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

Anthony Rodriguez, 25, turned himself in to authorities on Thursday, June 5. The incident occurred about a month ago. He is facing four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Records show he was released from the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $30,000 bond as of Monday, June 9.

According to Ormond Beach police, Rodriguez and three companions were dining at Fresh Guacamole Tequila & Bar Mexican Grill on 1930 West Granada Blvd. on May 6. They became displeased with the bill when it was presented, leading to an argument with the restaurant staff. To calm things down, an employee suggested that the group could leave without paying, as stated in the arrest report.

During the argument, a woman in the group began banging on the plexiglass protecting the cashier and pushed past it toward four employees, including a 16-year-old son of one of the staff. She yelled at one employee, prompting the teenager to step in to defend his father. At that moment, surveillance footage shows Rodriguez pulling out a silver handgun from his bag.

Rodriguez pointed the gun at the four people, and the woman then pushed him out of the restaurant. After a month-long investigation, police used photo lineups and facial recognition technology to confirm that Rodriguez was the one who brandished the gun at the employees.
