LGBTQ Activists Defend Drag Queen Marchers Who Chanted ‘We’re Coming For Your Children,’ Says ‘It’s All Just Words’

It looks like some LGBTQ activists came to the defense of drag queen marchers who yelled

“We’re coming for your children,”

which is a chant that has allegedly been utilized for years, according to a report, says the New York Post. A story that was published by NBC News revealed how LGBTQ activists say the chant was

“taken out of context.”

Drag queen marchers yelled the chant at a parade in New York City this month.

The initial organizer of the New York City drag queen parade, Brian Griffin, said to NBC News,

“It’s all just words… It’s all presented to fulfill their worst stereotypes of us.”

NBC quoted LGBTQ activists who claimed the chant had been utilized for years. However, Twitter implemented a community note to NBC’s tweet of the article alleging that there’s no proof of this.

The note said,

“The news articles provides no evidence of the ‘we’re coming for your children’ chant being done for years at pride nor does it quote specific individuals that make this claim…. This is very irresponsible reporting.”

Yet, the first female chair of New York’s Gay Liberation Front, Karla Jay, informed NBC News that the chant was done in an effort to imitate criticism of the LGBTQ community.

Jay elaborated, saying,

“The person who said this in a march isn’t the person who came up with this idea — the person in the march is saying, ‘Go ahead, call me this; why do I care? ….The person is trying to destigmatize this and claim their own power. You can’t blame the victims here, and that’s what the right wing is doing.”

The New York City drag queen march showcased signs that said

“Groom Cisies,”

according to NBC. Last year, marchers yelled

“groom, groom, groom,”

according to Gothamist.

Griffin said,

“These are the words that they’ve used all our lives to manipulate and control us… and we can now own them and see them for the falsehoods that they are.”

According to NBC, marchers have utilized other chants in the past such as

“We’re here, we’re queer, we’re not going shopping,”

which was chanted as a demand for more government support to help the AIDS epidemic.

The outlet reports that two drag queens said the

“we’re coming for your children”

chant wasn’t the best taste and it only represented a percentage of the LGBTQ community. The organizer for this year’s New York City drag queen march, Hucklefaery Ken said the chant was a

“bad joke that is being used to serve the interests of parasitic, predatory political propaganda and policy.”
