Beloved actress Nia Long has been casted to play Michael Jackson’s mother, Katherine, in the forthcoming biopic Michael.
According to Deadline, with Director Antoine Fuqua, the film will follow the King of Pop’s life and his legacy. Highlighting his ups and downs and how he conquered the world ultimately becoming the Icon that we know today.
Fuqua, while announcing Nia’s long for the role, told Variety that Nia has delivered iconic performances throughout her Career.
“I have been a Fan for a long time because her characters stay with you. I’m excited to now work alongside her as she pours all of that into Katherine Jackson: a woman who was the glue, the rock, and the heart of the Jackson family during its best and most turbulent times,”
he said.
Speaking on the role via her Instagram, the actress said she was speechless and honored to have been chosen to bring Katherine to life on the big screen. She said Katherine Jackson is an incredible pillar of strength and grace for the entire Jackson family. As a mother, she was selfless and endured forces beyond her control yet still managed to help build a legacy beyond measure.
The film is set to debut in April 2025.
