Police Searching For Suspect Who Allegedly Threw Hot Coffee On Nine-Month-Old Baby

The parents of a baby boy who was burned when a stranger threw hot coffee on him are asking for help to catch the attacker, reports The Guardian. Nine-month-old Luka had surgery at Queensland Children’s Hospital after suffering serious burns on 60% of his body, including his face, neck, chest, and arms, from the incident on Tuesday.

“My baby boy didn’t deserve this, no one does. I wish he poured the hot coffee all over me and not my boy,”

the baby’s mother posted to social media.

“Please if anyone has any CCTV footage around Lincoln Street / Regina Street in Stones Corner please speak to police. This man needs to be found and charged.”

New pictures from Luka’s mom show him in bandages and special clothing, as he heals in the hospital. Police described the man who attacked Luka as being between 30 and 40 years old, with an average build and tanned skin. He was seen on CCTV wearing a black hat, glasses, a blue checkered shirt, and shorts.

“This man was standing above him, behind him, and poured a Thermos of hot coffee over him. He just started screaming,”

A friend of the mother, Zara Mazza told the outlet. Bystanders quickly came to help the baby by pouring water from their bottles on him. Then, a trainee nurse offered her apartment for a cold shower so they could keep water running on him continuously.

“Bub is in a stable condition … they say that he’ll need regular dressing changes under anesthetic over the next weeks. They don’t know how long, but, yeah. It’s gonna take a while.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help pay for Luka’s medical expenses.

42-year-old Karen Salkilld, a gym owner in Western Australia, was discovered deceiving authorities by faking her own death to receive a hefty insurance payout of almost USD 500,000, which is equivalent to $700k in Australian dollars. She posed as her own partner in an intricate scheme, per the New York Post

The insurance claim consisted of several forged documents, like a fake death certificate, a letter from a delegate of the Coroner’s Court of Western Australia, and a phony investigation record of the death.

The insurance company moved USD 477,520.26 into a bank account under Ms. Salkilld’s partner’s name. There is no indication of her partner’s involvement. However, the plan fell apart when the Salkilld’s bank detected and froze the suspicious account.

In an attempt to unfreeze the account and access the funds, Ms. Salkilld went to Palmyra Police Station with certified identification documents; however, her attempts failed.

Alternative Healer Charged With Manslaughter After Woman Dies In ‘Slapping Therapy’ Workshop

Hongchi Xiao, whose occupation is described as an alternative healer, has been charged with manslaughter by gross negligence. The Wiltshire Police revealed this on Thursday, stating that the 60-year-old self-proclaimed healer was charged upon his return to the UK from Australia, following an extradition warrant, per Insider.

The charge stems from the tragic death of Danielle Carr-Gomm, a 71-year-old woman who passed away in Seend, England, in October 2016. Carr-Gomm had reportedly attended one of Xiao’s slapping therapy workshops, which took place at a hotel.

According to her son, Matthew Carr-Gomm, his mother had participated in the workshop in an attempt to alleviate her diabetes. She had been exploring alternative medical practices due to her fear of needles, as mentioned in The Guardian.

“She was always keen to try and find alternative methods of treating and dealing with her diabetes and was very interested in alternative and holistic medicine and therapies,”

    he said.

Xiao, a proponent of paida lajin therapy, is known for advocating patting and slapping body areas. According to the Associated Press, he has led workshops worldwide. However, the slapping aspect of this therapy can often cause bruising and bleeding.

Xiao has a warrant for his arrest, issued in October 2019, three years after the death of Carr-Gomm. He is scheduled to appear in a UK court on Friday.

  • Woman Dies After Taking Ozempic To Lose Weight For Daughter’s Wedding, Husband Devastated

Woman Dies After Taking Ozempic To Lose Weight For Daughter’s Wedding, Husband Devastated

Tragically, an Australian woman passed away from gastrointestinal illness while trying to lose weight for her daughter’s wedding using Ozempic. Now, her husband advises against using the medication, deeming it ineffective.

56-year-old Trish Webster was given Ozempic to help her fit into her desired dress for her daughter’s wedding, reports the New York Post.

If you’re unaware, the US FDA approved Ozempic as a medication for Type 2 diabetes.

It has gained popularity globally as a weight-loss drug. By imitating GLP-1, a natural hormone, the drug slows digestion, helping people feel fuller for a longer period. If the drug excessively slows stomach activity or obstructs the intestines, complications can happen.

According to reports, as of late September, the FDA has received 18 reports of intestinal blockage, known as “ileus,” in individuals taking Ozempic.

Local reports say the woman was taking both Ozempic, and a Saxenda injection, leading her to lose 35 pounds in just five months. Despite the prescriptions aiding in Webster’s weight loss journey, the medicine was also making her sick. On Jan. 16, shortly before her daughter’s wedding, Webster’s spouse reportedly discovered her unconscious with brown liquid flowing from her mouth.

Her husband, Roy Webster, told 60 Minutes Australia,

“She had a little bit of brown stuff coming out of her mouth, and I realized she wasn’t breathing and started doing CPR…It was just pouring out, and I turned her onto the side because she couldn’t breathe.”

Sadly, Webster passed away that evening, with her official cause of death recorded as a severe gastrointestinal illness.

Although Webster’s demise is not officially attributed to her use of Ozempic and Saxenda; her husband is holding the medications responsible. Novo Nordisk, the manufacturer of Ozempic, acknowledged that reports of ileus only surfaced after the drug was released. Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly are facing lawsuits in the US, alleging that their weight-loss drugs can cause severe gastrointestinal issues, including gastroparesis.

In September, the FDA updated the Ozempic label to address reports of blocked intestines in certain individuals using the medication. The update followed numerous complaints received by the agency.

  • Toddler Passed Away After Being Left In 120-Degree Car While Mother Watched ‘Shameless’ With Boyfriend, Mom Sentenced To 7 Years

Toddler Passed Away After Being Left In 120-Degree Car While Mother Watched ‘Shameless’ With Boyfriend, Mom Sentenced To 7 Years

A mother in Queensland, Australia, has been sentenced to seven years in jail after her three-year-old daughter died from being left alone in a hot car for over five hours in Nov. 2020, reports the New York Post. Laura Rose Peverill will be eligible for parole in less than two years. The court heard that the toddler, Rylee Rose Black, was left in the locked car as temperatures inside reached about 124 degrees Fahrenheit.

Prosecutor David Nardone argued that the extreme temperatures in the car were

    “not survivable.”

Rylee would have experienced suffering that led to a coma and eventual death. The tragic incident occurred on a day when outside temperatures were over about 87 degrees Fahrenheit. Peverill and her boyfriend at the time had gone inside their home after bringing groceries but forgot to take Rylee out of the car.

It was only when Peverill went to pick up her other children from school that she discovered Rylee unresponsive and drenched in vomit. The toddler was rushed to the hospital but died from heat stroke or thermoregulatory failure. Rylee’s father, Peter Black, shared the devastation he felt upon receiving the news and the heartbreak of seeing his daughter in the hospital. He expressed his remorse for not being able to save her.

Peverill’s defense barrister, Victoria Trafford-Walker, explained that her client had been dealing with mental health and alcohol issues for years. On the day of the incident, Peverill was stressed due to moving in with her boyfriend. The court considered these factors but ultimately sentenced her to seven years in prison.

  • Australian Police Officers Accused of Falsely Claiming Non-Binary Identity For Increased Clothing Allowance

Australian Police Officers Accused of Falsely Claiming Non-Binary Identity For Increased Clothing Allowance

Australian police officers are being accused of pretending to be non-binary to receive a higher clothing allowance, per The Post

The Herald Sun reports that the Victoria Police has interviewed at least 17 officers as part of their investigation into this scheme. Female officers in Victoria receive a $1,300 higher clothing allowance than male officers.

Investigators suspect that male officers are exploiting a loophole by identifying as non-binary or gender neutral to receive the same stipend. The investigation aims to uncover the truth and take appropriate action if wrongdoing is found.

“Conduct of this sort, if validated, is not acceptable and falls far short of the standards I expect from Victoria Police members and the standards of behavior outlined in our code of conduct and Victoria Police values,”

Chief Commissioner Shane Patton wrote to Victoria Police employees after the allegations first broke.

The alleged scheme to falsely identify as non-binary for a higher clothing allowance spread rapidly, with one employee per day joining the crusade. By June, over 130 employees claimed non-binary status, up from 32 the previous year.

A search warrant was executed in July during the investigation. The department introduced gender self-identification three years ago to promote inclusivity, but now officials are considering requiring legal declarations to prevent further abuse. The number of officers involved and potential consequences remain uncertain.

  • Company Uses Keystroke Technology To Monitor Woman’s Work From Home, Resulting In Her Termination

Company Uses Keystroke Technology To Monitor Woman’s Work From Home, Resulting In Her Termination

An employee was terminated from her job after her employer determined she was stealing hours by not working her designated work schedule, using a keystroke technology from her company laptop, reports the NY Post.

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) has denied a former employee, Suzie Cheikho’s claims that she was given an

    “unfair dismissal”

and that the company had a

“premeditated plan to remove her from the business and that she was targeted due to her mental health issues.”

However, FWC has been an advocate for the decision of her employer, Insurance Australia Group (IAG), to fire Cheikho due to a

    “valid reason of misconduct,”

after discovering she was not working her registered hours. According to the company, Cheikho did not perform her hours for 44 days, began work late on 47 days, ended early on 29 days, and completed zero hours of work on 4 days. Cheikho is also accused of

“missing deadlines and meetings, being absent and uncontactable, and failing to complete a task which caused the industry regulator to fine IAG,”

    according to IAG.

The company was able to determine Cheikho’s misconduct after providing her with a business laptop that detailed how many times an employee physically pressed the keyboard. They calculated 54 keystrokes per hour throughout her surveillance, which verifies that

“she was not presenting for work and performing work as required,”

    said IAG.

Cheikho has dedicated 18 years working as a  consultant at the firm. She has since put in a request for

    “unfair dismissal”

    but has not provided any

    “credible”

evidence to back up her story.

“I have been going through a lot of personal issues which has caused a decline to my mental health and unfortunately I believe it has affected my performance and my work,”

she reportedly said in a formal meeting about the review.

  • Woman Says She Was Ghosted by Her Husband After He Received His Visa, ‘He Fooled Everyone’

Woman Says She Was Ghosted by Her Husband After He Received His Visa, ‘He Fooled Everyone’

An Australian woman is blasting her American ex-husband who she says left her after obtaining an Australian partner visa, NY Post reported.

Isabelle Glastonbury, 31, said she had met her then-husband in Dallas, Texas in 2015 and the two got engaged just one year later. Glastonbury claims her fiance at the time relocated to Australia so they could start their life together. The couple exchanged vows in Palm Beach to a $50,000 wedding that Glastonbury said her family paid for.

However, according to Glastonbury, their honeymoon was short-lived after her ex vanished in January 2021 after attaining his visa. Glastonbury’s parents reportedly paid $10,000 for the visa, she told the outlet.

“I got home and literally 90% of his stuff had disappeared,”

    Glastonbury told Daily Mail Australia.

    “I had this sinking feeling.”

Glastonbury said her calls and messages stopped going through, her credit cards were drained, and her number was blocked. She recalled attempting to log onto his immigration accounts, but she was locked out.

“He ghosted everyone — all of our mutual friends, the best man from our wedding, and his own family, no-one knew where he was,”

    she said.

After reflecting on the incident, Glastonbury said she now realizes there were signs leading up to him leaving.

“Don’t be blind, because I’m sure I could have seen the signs before this happened and I just ignored it, you never really know who you’re sleeping next to,”

    she advised.
