Florida Man Accepts Plea Deal After Infant Dies From Being Forcefully Thrown Against Wall Multiple Times

A Florida man has been sentenced to more than two decades in prison after brutally killing his 2-month-old daughter in 2020, Law And Crime reports.

On December 11th, 2020, infant Scarlet Strahm was taken to an emergency room after her mother saw she was having a seizure. After tests proved that the child was suffering from an internal brain bleed, the child’s father, Steven Michael Strahm, told police that he had accidentally dropped her. Scarlet’s mother had been at work during the time the incident occurred.

The University of Florida Child Protection Team later determined that Scarlet had sustained both “abusive head trauma indicative of physical abuse” and a fractured knee indicative of physical abuse and medical neglect. While being questioned by authorities, Strahm confessed to forcefully throwing the 2-month-old against a wall “4 or 5 times” and intentionally dropping her on her head. Sadly, Scarlet never recovered, and she died two weeks later.

Last month, Strahm pleaded guilty to one count each of second-degree murder and aggravated child abuse as part of a plea deal. In exchange for pleading guilty, prosecutors dropped a child neglect charge. He has since been sentenced to spend 23.5 years in a state correctional facility.

“You broke me. You took the best part of me away and you broke me,” the child’s mother said in a statement. “I never got to hear her giggle. I never got to watch her crawl or hear her first words or watch her take her first steps. She should be two and a half and probably be the most amazing person now but I’ll never know.”

According to Fox, a middle school teacher from Florida was allowed to work for several weeks after informing the Fox Chapel Middle School assistant principal that she wished to shoot some students. The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office told Fox 13, that officials extracted firearms from the teacher’s home after she confided in the assistant principal claiming that she was

    “having bad thoughts”

    and

    “[wished] to shoot some students.”

The school official informed a school resource officer about the comments made by the unidentified teacher. The teacher told the guidance counselor that she was angry because she

“learned about a social media post where people were talking negatively about her sexual orientation.”

The teacher went on to reportedly tell the guidance counselor that she

“immediately stated she would never harm a student [and] stated that she does not want to harm herself.”

The day that the guns were taken from the teacher’s home, a judge approved a permanent Risk Protection Order. Administrators revealed that initially, the teacher was allowed to return to work. However, a spokesperson for the Hernando County School District said they followed the threat assessment protocol.

    The spokesperson said,

“What the report shows is that a team of professionals made up of school, district, and law enforcement personnel followed all steps of the district’s threat assessment protocol to ensure this teacher was no danger to themselves or others.”

In another statement released on Thursday the school district revealed that the educator will be removed from

    “all student contact,”

and the teacher’s return date is to be determined as they carry out an investigation.

Parents disagreed with the initial decision of allowing the unnamed teacher to work after her complaint. One parent, Mike Martini, said,

“Anybody that makes a comment like that should not be working in a school. If a student made that comment there would be charges pressed. The child would be expelled.”

High School Teacher Terminated After Making Students Write Their Own Obituaries

An Orlando high school teacher, Jeffrey Keane, who teaches psychology has been fired after teaching a lesson that ended in students writing their own obituaries, reports say.

According to Fox 35, the Dr. Phillips High School teacher made students write their own obituaries to teach gun safety. Keane requested that the class place themselves into an active shooter incident, which would help them write about dealing with morality as if they were going through a theoretical occurrence.

    Keane explained,

“If they died 24 hours from now, what would they do differently, than they did yesterday? And that’s to show them what’s important in the world. It wasn’t to say, you’re gonna die and let’s stretch you out.”

He went on to tell the news outlet that at the bottom of the lesson plan, he implemented a disclaimer to reassure students that

“this is in no way to upset you.”

A student who was frustrated with the lesson told a counselor. The counselor spoke with a supervisor, which subsequently led to the teacher’s termination.

“When they said you have the option to resign without violating your contract, I said, ‘I didn’t do anything wrong.’ I said, ‘If I did, tell me what it is. They said, ‘We can’t do that.’ I said, ‘In that case, since I don’t know what I did wrong, you can go ahead and terminate me without cause,’”

    said Keane.

During the stop, she gave an officer her fake ID. The officer was later able to confirm her real identification and learned the teen had several warrants. She was then arrested and taken to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

The managers appeared in court on Wednesday while the owner couldn’t attend due to medical reasons.
