A Long Island man drowned while attempting to save a woman and her child at Horseshoe Bay Beach in Bermuda during their family vacation. 48-year-old Jamie Labros passed away on Oct. 7, per the New York Post. The mother and son were saved but sadly, Labros lost his life in this heroic act.

According to his family, he was on a cruise with 11 of his relatives when the incident occurred.

Joey Pappas, the hero’s brother told WABC,

“He was my hero when I was a kid and he was my hero now.”

“Me and him never split up, and the one time we split up, this happens,”

    he continued.

The family’s hope is to enlighten travelers about the beach, which cruise lines promoted but allegedly did not include the proper safety measures to protect beachgoers.

“There’s no rescue skis, there’s no emergency teams that’s gonna get there in time,”

    said Lambros’ mother, Phyllis Gasparri.

However, the Bermuda Police told WABC that there were alerts about rough beach waters because of hurricane season.

  • Middle School Bathrooms In New York School District Now Equipped With ‘Vape Detectors’

Middle School Bathrooms In New York School District Now Equipped With ‘Vape Detectors’

Middle school students in a Long Island town will no longer be able to vape on school grounds due to recent changes made by school officials. The bathrooms in Lindenhurst Middle School have been equipped with

    “vape detectors,”

specifically the FlySense FS300 models, as reported by the NY Post

These detectors can detect the presence of both nicotine and THC, which is a component of marijuana, in the air. Additionally, they are designed to monitor air quality and detect changes in sound levels. This means that the detectors can even notify school officials if fights occur inside the restrooms.

Derek Peterson of Soter Technologies told CBS the detectors have an AI algorithm that can tell the difference between a door and toilet lid slam and

“when somebody is roughhousing in the bathroom.”

According to Peterson, the detectors do not have any built-in microphones. When unusual activities are detected, an instant email is sent to the school’s principal. The students who are involved will then be connected with professional intervention services.

“There’s still a consequence, but now we’ve added that education piece,”

    Naccarato said.

“They also have to do a component of research based on vapes, how it hurts you.”

At the recommendation of a 15-year-old student, the school district looked into getting the detectors. The student, who we wish to remain anonymous, had noticed that her classmates were extremely addicted to vaping and were even rushing to do it in the bathroom during their breaks between classes.

“I was doing research on it, and I saw the side effects and how you can get popcorn lung, all the severe cancer you can get,”

She told CBS. Since it’s installation, Lindenhurst Middle School has caught two student vapers.

  • Substitute Teacher Charged After Showing His Hickeys To 14-Year-Old Student and Telling Her That He Would Make Her Fall In Love If They Had Sex

Substitute Teacher Charged After Showing His Hickeys To 14-Year-Old Student and Telling Her That He Would Make Her Fall In Love If They Had Sex

Authorities reported that a substitute teacher, 27-year-old Jasskirat Saini, engaged in disturbing interactions with a 14-year-old student at Hillcrest High School in Queens, New York. Saini allegedly showed the student his hickeys and made inappropriate comments, leading to his arrest, per the New York Post

    The 27-year-old told the teen,

“If I was a student at Hillcrest, I would make you fall in love with me by having sex with you, so you can never stop thinking about me.”

“You are a teacher and are not supposed to be saying something like that,”

the student told him after his shocking and inappropriate comment, per a criminal complaint.

The teacher then laughed following the teen’s response.

According to prosecutors, the substitute teacher is accused of engaging in multiple creepy interactions with the student for over a month and a half. He repeatedly questioned if she thought he was attractive and expressed his desire to have a sexual relationship with her. He also touched her inappropriately.

During another encounter, Saini reportedly flaunted hickeys on his neck from his girlfriend and expressed his desire for the student to be old enough to date him. In front of other students, he insisted she sit next to him, brushing away the other kids and calling them annoying. He also asked her to spend time with him outside of school hours, demanded a hair tie as a keepsake, and uncomfortably moved her chair closer to his, causing their knees to touch.

Saini was apprehended at the school on Monday following a complaint from the girl’s father. He is facing charges of child endangerment and harassment. During his arraignment at Queens Criminal Court, he was released without bail but mandated to stay away from the student.
