before firing multiple shots in the air, police said per Insider

Matthew McCulloch, an off-duty officer with the St. Louis County Police, has been charged with 11 felonies, including endangering the welfare of children and first-degree terrorist threat, according to court documents.

The incident took place on October 15, at a

“Trunk-or-Treat”

event attended by numerous parents and children.

McCulloch reportedly approached several people at the party before making threats towards a man and his wife. In response, the man pushed McCulloch forcefully in the chest, which made him fall. McCulloch then,

“while surrounded by hundreds of children, stood up, pulled up his shirt to display a handgun and badge, then began firing his weapon in an upward direction approximately a dozen times while shouting that the attendees would die,”

the court documents said.

McCulloch kept shooting until bystanders jumped in and tackled him, taking away his weapon. McCulloch’s attorney entered not-guilty pleas on his behalf, and the St. Louis County Police have suspended him without pay while conducting an internal investigation.
