  • Man Sentenced To 20 Years Behind Bars After Sexually Abusing Disabled Relative On Multiple Occasions

Man Sentenced To 20 Years Behind Bars After Sexually Abusing Disabled Relative On Multiple Occasions

59-year-old Troy Hickman of Canton, Georgia has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after being convicted of sexually exploiting a disabled relative on several occasions, reports FOX. Hickman was charged with

“two counts of aggravated sexual battery and two counts of exploitation and intimidation of a disabled adult,”

and pleaded guilty back in May.

The man was arrested after his disabled relative informed a friend about the unfortunate encounters last year. Fox reported that the acts began when she was 18 years old. After the woman, who was intellectually disabled, told a friend, the friend then reported the man to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, reports FOX 5 Atlanta.

Officials later learned that the woman and Hicks were around each other often during the years he abused her. The unnamed relative disclosed what Hickman did to her to investigators from the Anna Crawford Children’s Center.

Elliot Stone, Assistant District Attorney of the Domestic Violence Unit said,

“Victims of sexual assault are often afraid to come forward, and that was certainly the case here. The victim is intellectually disabled and had been subjected to repeated threats of harm by this defendant as he attempted to prevent her from revealing the abuse. She bravely overcame that fear by seeking help.”

Although the man admitted to committing the crime, he blamed his actions on alcohol while also indicating that the woman played a part in it.

After his time is served, he will remain on probation for the remainder of his life and can’t contact the victim or her family members. He also has to do a sexual evaluation and undergo rehabilitation for substance abuse and comply with the specific requirements for sex offenders.

Susan K. Treadaway, the district attorney said,

“The victim looked to this defendant as a father figure, and it is despicable that he would manipulate her trust and vulnerability for his own sexual desires… Our hope is the victim and her family will find peace and healing in knowing that this defendant has received justice for his crimes and that he will never again be able to hurt another individual in this way.”

  • Popeyes Employees Being Sued After Reportedly Attacking Woman Who Attempted To Have Her Order Corrected

Popeyes Employees Being Sued After Reportedly Attacking Woman Who Attempted To Have Her Order Corrected

A current lawsuit alleges that Popeyes staffers in an Atlanta, Georgia location attacked a woman in the drive-thru when she tried to have her order fixed. The incident occurred back in September 2022 at a location on Cleveland Avenue in southwest Atlanta, reports FOX

After the victim, Denetra Dawson tried to correct her order, words were swapped, and then the staffers assaulted her. The employees pulled out a piece of her hair and left her wounded, says a lawsuit filed on Friday. The victim informed Fox 5 Atlanta,

“I didn’t even think I was going to make it back to my kids… I simply went to get food for my kids, I still don’t understand why me.”

Dawson’s attorney, Mawuli Davis, informed the news outlet that one staff member opened the woman’s door, entered the vehicle, and assaulted her. Three staffers were involved in the incident and the attack stopped after Dawson pulled out her gun. She later called officials following the encounter. The report says that a minor, Tenice Taylor, and two others were charged with battery. Another person, Tenister Evans, was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.

    Davis said,

“They ripped out the braid out of her hair, all the way down to the root.”

    Dawson added,

“They took my identity, I take pride in my hair, I can’t get certain hairstyles.”

The attackers are being sued as well as the organization that owns the restaurant.

    Davis said in a statement,

“This incident is an outrageous example of Popeyes’ failure to prioritize customer safety and well-being… By hiring a manager with a history of violence, Popeyes exhibited a reckless disregard for the safety of their patrons. The manager and two employees exited Popeyes and violently attacked her inside of her car. We are resolute in our commitment to holding the restaurant accountable for their actions and seeking justice for our client.”

the Spalding County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.

“When Gilbert saw what they were doing to his residence, he came out of the house unarmed, to confront them,”

Mother Charged With Murder After 7-Year-Old Girl Was Discovered Dead In Closet, Reports Say She Was Left In The Closet For Months

Sadly, a young girl’s body was discovered decaying in an Atlanta home after officials received an anonymous tip. The victim was identified as 7-year-old Alivia Hobbs-Jordan. Although the home was evacuated for months, a man found the apartment door open and smelled a horrible odor, according to Cafemom. PEOPLE reported that the man witnessed an arm hanging out of the closet and instantly contacted officials. The unnamed man recalled,

    “She looked like a mummy.”

Officials believe the mother, Alondra Hobbs, left the autistic girl, at some point, between February 28 and June 25. On June 29, the mother was apprehended and later charged with felony murder and cruelty in the second degree, said The Dekalb County Police Department in a Facebook post.

According to ABC 7, a neighbor informed officials that it’s been several months since they’ve seen the tenant. Another unnamed neighbor informed WSB that earlier in the year, the mother expressed that she wanted to kill herself. The neighbor said,

“Everybody like, ‘Why you want to kill yourself?’ She never said…But she never let you in her apartment. Never.”

Authorities confirmed that the young girl was left in the closet for several months; however, they haven’t confirmed the exact cause of death. PEOPLE reported that officials believe the mother purposely abandoned the child and had no plans of returning to the apartment. When police located the girl in the closet, they found

“what appeared to be a full head of hair and decayed flesh that was in the form of an arm and leg.”

They also discovered mail with the mother’s name on it.

Relatives spoke about the incident, as one family member, Latrience Robinson said,

“I just didn’t see that in her. We all have issues, but I didn’t think she would do something to her kids,”

Fox 5 reported. Robinson told WAGA,

“We had no clue…The baby was supposed to be with the dad’s mom in Albany. That’s what she kept telling us.”

“trafficking of persons for sexual servitude, rape, statutory rape, enticing a child for indecent purposes, child molestation, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor,”

  • Georgia Inmate Found Dead After Being “Eaten Alive” In Bed Bug Infested Jail Cell

Georgia Inmate Found Dead After Being “Eaten Alive” In Bed Bug Infested Jail Cell

The family of an inmate in an Atlanta jail who died after being “eaten alive” by bed bugs and other insects are calling for a criminal investigation into his death, CBS News reported.

On June 12th, Lashawn Thompson was arrested for a misdemeanor battery charge. Due to mental health issues, the 35-year-old was taken to the psychiatric wing of Fulton County Jail. Three months later, he was found dead in his cell. Thompson’s family have now retained a lawyer, Michael Harper, to both call for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, and begin the process of an upcoming civil suit.

According to jail records, medical staff were aware that Thompson’s health was deteriorating due to a bed big infestation, but refused to help him. “They literally watched his health decline until he died,” said Harper. “When his body was found one of the detention officers refused to administer CPR because in her words she ‘freaked out.’” In a set of disturbing photos that Harper has released to the public, both Thompson and his jail cell are covered in thousands of bugs. Harper stated the cell was “not fit for a diseased animal.”

With a capacity of over 2,500 inmates, the Fulton County Jail is one of the largest jails within the United States and is notorious for the amount of issues and scandals surrounding it. Officers have been suspects of allowing inmates order food from restaurants, a female officer was caught on video having sexual encounters with an inmate, a deputy’s ear was bitten off, and more. Last month, more than 200 shanks were found, along with other contraband.

“It’s no secret that the dilapidated and rapidly eroding conditions of the current facility make it incredibly difficult to meet the goal of providing a clean, well-maintained and healthy environment for all inmates and staff,” a spokesperson for the jail wrote. “That is why Sheriff Labat continues to call building a new Fulton County Jail and Criminal Justice Complex.”
