    A couple in Michigan is facing involuntary manslaughter and second-degree child abuse

    charges after reportedly suffocating their young child who got stuck in the couch

    “while they were intoxicated,”

    per PEOPLE. Reports added that the child was merely 6 months old. The parents, 40-year-old Jose Antonio Roldan Jr and 29-year-old Ladesha Ann Powe recently went to court, per WOOD-TV. 

    According to court documents, the couple in Kalamazoo allegedly confessed to consuming alcohol and marijuana while looking after their daughter back in Dec. 2023. On Dec. 13, officials were called to their home after a report of an unresponsive baby.

    A probable cause affidavit says that Roldan claimed he fell asleep on the couch with the baby beside him. When he woke up, he found the 6-month-old stuck and unresponsive. He woke up Powe, the child’s mother, and contacted emergency officials. Sadly, the baby was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

    According to court documents, Roldan admitted to consuming nine or 10 large cans of alcohol, while Powe had five drinks. They also smoked marijuana. Video footage from inside their home showed them drinking in the living room, with Roldan lying on the couch and Powe holding the baby as she sat at the end of the couch. 

    According to the affidavit, the documents state that Powe fell asleep, causing the baby to fall out of her arms and

    “become wedged between her father”

    and the couch. Powe admitted to being heavily intoxicated when this transpired.

    According to court documents, Roldan unintentionally smothered the baby while sleeping. Powe, seen in video footage, wakes up, searches for the baby, and then goes to the bedroom for the night. The medical examiner determined the cause of death as mechanical asphyxia, ruling it a homicide.

    A mother of Arkansas, Amber Nicole Thompson, is facing several charges including endangering the welfare of a minor after reportedly forcing her son, 7, to walk over seven miles to school due to him missing his school bus, per PEOPLE

    Thompson was apprehended on April 2 after the minor child was discovered walking on the road, officials revealed in an affidavit. The mother informed officials it wasn’t “her problem” that the minor had to

    “walk to school.”

    According to the affidavit, she reportedly claimed that her son was capable of waking up on his own for school.

    According to the police affidavit, the boy informed a deputy that Thompson had sent him to bed hungry as a punishment for misbehaving the previous night.

    When officials went to the boy’s home, they discovered his mother sleeping and two other children in her care, per the affidavit.

    Woman Arrested After Being Accused Of Abusing Boy When He Showed Up To School With ‘Missing Pieces Of Hair’

    Officials say a woman in Texas was apprehended on April 3 for allegedly abusing a young boy. The arrest came after the boy disclosed the violence that took place at home to his teachers. The woman is charged with injury to a child with intent to cause bodily harm, as stated by the Woodway Public Safety Department, reports Fort Worth Star-Telegram

    According to police,

    “detectives determined the young child had been the victim of several violent incidents ranging from being punched, hit with miscellaneous objects, and not being fed for long periods of time.” 

    The woman’s connection to the child was not provided by authorities, but they confirmed that she was responsible for his care. To protect the child’s identity, McClatchy News has chosen not to disclose the woman’s name. The abuse was revealed when the boy, who had missing patches of hair, was at school and caught the attention of the staff. Reports noted he was weeping and  

    “missing pieces of his hair.” 

    The boy informed staffers that he was

    “dragged to the bathroom by his hair,”

    as well as

    “forced to drink toilet water,”

    officials say. 

    Police said,

    “Great work school personnel for noticing and moving this investigation forward.”

    Man Taken Into Custody For Murder When He Showed Up At Hospital After Being Attacked

    The Huntsville Police Department reported that a man accused of a murder that occurred in November was apprehended when he sought medical attention at Huntsville Hospital after being attacked, reports WHNT

    According to a department spokesperson, the murder arrest is related to a shooting incident That transpired on Nov. 21, 2023. Francisco Ramirez, 33, was discovered shot at a home on Cobb Road and later succumbed to his injuries. Walter Escoria-Gomez was issued a murder warrant following an investigation.

    Officials responded to an assault victim at Huntsville Hospital on April 4, 2024. One officer identified Escoria-Gomez as the suspect from the shooting that occurred back in November. Once his identity was confirmed, he was apprehended upon his release from the hospital.

    Man Arrested After Killing A Guest At A BBQ, Reports Say He Warned His Friend That He May Act A Fool

    According to the police, a man from Texas, Ricardo Domingo Reyna, 22, was apprehended after fatally shooting a party guest. Reyna had initially informed his friends that they could kick him out if he became unruly due to drug use. He attended a barbecue where he admitted to taking an excessive amount of drugs, and later shot Jaime Torres DeLeon, per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram

    According to an affidavit,

    “He informed [his friend’s girlfriend] that if he got out of line or acted a fool, to kick him out of the party.” 

    According to the police, Reyna became aggressive when asked to leave the party due to his intoxicated state. He refused to leave and, during a confrontation outside, shot DeLeon with a pistol “at close range.”

    According to witnesses, Reyna fired two shots and then emptied the magazine. Reports added that he then proceeded to run away. Witnesses confirmed that DeLeon was unarmed and did not physically engage with Reyna during the altercation. Sadly, DeLeon succumbed to his gunshot wounds and passed away at the hospital.

    Man Purchased Beer After Reportedly Murdering Pregnant Woman Who Was Discovered In Garbage Bags

    Juan Vega Montoya of Cook County has been charged with murder for allegedly killing a pregnant woman and dumping her body in the north suburbs. Court records state that Montoya purchased beer after the murder and concealed the victim’s body in his car for two days. On Nov. 26, Vega Montoya was accused of picking up the victim near Cicero and Belden in Chicago, per WGN Chicago.

    The prosecutors claim that he killed her by strangling her amid a verbal dispute while they were in his vehicle. Prosecutors also accuse him of buying beer immediately after the murder. When he returned home, he reportedly placed her corpse in the back of his sedan and covered the driver’s window with a shirt to mask it. The following day, he informed officials that he drove north for approximately an hour until the

    “expressway turned into a [regular] road.” 

    Sadly, Lewis’ body was discovered in garbage bags by Hunt Club Road in Old Mill Creek on Nov. 29. Vega Montoya was arrested on Dec. 11, and a DNA test was conducted. Court records mention that Montoya’s earring and fingernail were discovered inside the vehicle. Reports noted that Lewis was 16 weeks pregnant at the time

    Detectives discovered that he reportedly sent a text message to his supervisor the day after the crime, claiming that he had overslept and would be arriving to work late.

    Missing Child Located At School Says He Hadn’t Been Home In Days, Mother Charged

    A mother reported her child missing in Florida. The child was found at school and revealed that he hadn’t been home for three days. The mom now faces charges of child neglect, per the Miami Herald.

    Officials said,

    “The mother was unable to provide a precise timeline but indicated that she hadn’t seen him.”

    Detectives located the child at his school the following day. During the interview, the child disclosed that he had not been home for several days. The age of the child was not disclosed by the sheriff’s office.

    During their visit to the residence, investigators discovered concerning conditions such as

    “insect infestation,”

    “malnourished dogs,”

    and

    “feces on the floor.”

    The house lacked basic amenities like electricity and running water, and was described as being in a terrible state. As the 31-year-old woman was responsible for four children living there, she was charged with four counts of child neglect.

    Deputies stated that the children have been relocated to other relatives for their safety. To safeguard the children’s identities. Officials revealed that the family resided with a 19-year-old who owned the house, and he has since been charged with two counts of aggravated animal cruelty.

    Man Conducting Security Check At Myrtle Beach Motel Was Reportedly Tied Up In A Room and Robbed

    A man was arrested in Myrtle Beach for allegedly holding a security checker at gunpoint,

    “robbing him, and stealing his [vehicle].”

    39-year-old Elijah Barker is now facing multiple charges including armed robbery and kidnapping. He is in custody with a $50,000 bond, per WPDE.

    At 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, an incident occurred in a motel on S. Ocean Boulevard. While checking rooms for security, the victim noticed that Room 207 was locked with a deadbolt, even though guests weren’t supposed to be in the room, officials said in a police report. 

    Upon entering the room, the victim found that the main entryway light was not functioning. While in the bathroom, the suspect, identified as Barker, threatened the victim with a gun. Barker then locked the door, instructed the victim to sit, and tied him to a chair with a bedsheet. The suspect then took the victim’s car keys.

    After instructing the victim to stay still for five minutes, the suspect fled the room and stole the victim’s car, which held his wallet. Officials discovered the car in a nearby parking lot and apprehended Barker, who had the victim’s car keys and a wallet-like case. Additionally, a firearm was found in close proximity.
