Mom Arrested For Kicking Her 12-Year-Old Out Of The Car and Forcing Him To Walk Along Busy Highway After Argument About Grades

A Wisconsin mother was arrested for kicking her 12-year-old son out of her car and making him walk nearly two miles along a busy highway, per Law & Crime. She has since been released on bail.

Flor Escalante was charged with felony child abandonment and a misdemeanor charge for child neglect on November 7. Escalante reportedly got into a heated argument with her son about his grades during the drive to his tutoring center.

Escalante stopped the car on the side of the I-94 highway, told her son to get out, and told him to walk the rest of the way to the tutoring center. According to reports from Milwaukee Fox affiliate WITI, there were multiple calls from drivers who reported

“a 10- or 12-year-old on the shoulder crying,”

    and

“He doesn’t know his mom or dad’s name. We’re going to be setting up a post.”

When the police arrived at the boy, it was already dark and rush hour traffic was heavy. The temperature had dropped to around 50 degrees, and the boy wasn’t dressed for the cold and didn’t have access to a phone to call anyone for help. He told the officers that he was walking to the Sylvan Learning Center where his mom was waiting for him. The police took him to the center and then arrested Escalante, bringing her to the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department for questioning.

She told officers that her son

“didn’t appreciate everything [she] did for him,”

which is the reason she made him walk

“so he can understand what labor is,”

according to the criminal complaint. The complaint also stated that while Escalante was

    “visibly upset about the situation,”

    she

“did not seem to grasp the recklessness and negligent nature of her actions.”

She was released on $500 bail.

  • Frontier Airlines Passenger Says Employees At Atlanta Airport Tried Extorting Him For $50 To Get Nails Done and Buy Weed

Frontier Airlines Passenger Says Employees At Atlanta Airport Tried Extorting Him For $50 To Get Nails Done and Buy Weed

A Frontier Airlines passenger claims that two employees tried to extort money from him while he was getting ready to board his flight, as reported by WSBTV. The passenger, Demonta Roach, said the employees tried pressuring him to send them money via Cash App to buy weed and get their nails done.

Roach believes this wasn’t the first time the employees have done something like this.

“Her words: I don’t give a damn what you’re in, as long as you have my damn money,”

Roach said is what the employees told him.

“Her friend said, we normally charge $100 for this but since you’re in the military we’ll charge you $50,”

Roach said referring to a military discount he didn’t ask for.

In the video, the employees repeatedly ask Roach to send them money through Cash App. Roach told Channel 2 reporter Ashli Lincoln that he was on his way back to his Navy base in Los Angeles when two Frontier gate agents tried to squeeze him out of $50 before allowing him to board his flight at the Atlanta Airport.

“It happened Monday on Veteran’s Day,”

    he said.

After getting to the airport two hours early, Roach found out that his flight was delayed. He decided to get something to eat only about

    “50 steps from the gate.”

When he came back, he was the last person to board. However, he had arrived well before the final boarding call.

“The lady closed the door, she said, ‘I don’t care who you report to if you want to get back on this plane, you have to pay me,’”

he said. When he refused to pay they threatened to get him removed from the flight.

Roach said he finally managed to board the plane after pretending he would send the employees the money. Lincoln reached out to the airline to which they replied,

“We take claims like this seriously, and our team is in the process of investigating the situation to determine what happened. In the meantime, we have offered the customer a voucher for $150 as a customer service gesture.”

  • 14-Year-Old Admits To Beating and Raping 91-Year-Old Woman In Her Home, Court Records Reveal

14-Year-Old Admits To Beating and Raping 91-Year-Old Woman In Her Home, Court Records Reveal

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested for sexually battering a 91-year-old woman in her Florida home, as reported by The Independent.

The boy, named Jesse Stone, confessed to his crime and changed his plea to guilty after initially pleading not guilty, according to WKMG. He will be sentenced as an adult next month, but it is not clear how long he could be sentenced for.

The incident took place on June 9. The woman told authorities that she woke up to find Stone in her home in Reddick, Florida. He then attacked and sexually assaulted her, according to the report. The victim was taken to the hospital, where she told the police that Stone pounced on her and struck her in the face before he escaped.

On that same day, Stone approached officers from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and claimed that a neighbor had discovered

    “something”

on their security footage. After watching the video, the deputies noticed that the suspect matched Stone’s description. A week later, he was taken into custody on charges of sexual battery and burglary.

“It came as a shock that any individual would commit such acts on a 91-year-old, but it is truly disturbing when we see the young age of the arrestee,”

Sheriff Billy Woods said after the arrest.

“Although I firmly believe he should be held accountable for his crime, as a father, my compassion goes out to his family. Hopefully his arrest will lead to getting him help that prevents any further such acts.”

  • Yale To Introduce A New Course On Beyoncé’s Cultural Influence In Spring 2025

Yale To Introduce A New Course On Beyoncé’s Cultural Influence In Spring 2025

Yale University is planning to offer students a course on Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter’s cultural influence in spring 2025, as reported by Yale Daily News

The professor, Daphne Brooks teaches African American Studies and music, and will be teaching a new class titled,

“Beyoncé Makes History: Black Radical Tradition History, Culture, Theory & Politics through Music.”

In the course, students will get familiar with Beyoncé’s artistic work from 2013 to 2024. They will learn about Black history, ideas, and performance.

This course comes from a previous class taught by Brooks at Princeton University called

“Black Women in Popular Music Culture.”

While at Princeton, Brooks was part of the English and African American Studies Departments. Many topics in her Yale course are based on what she taught about Beyoncé’s influence in her Princeton class.

    “Those classes were always overenrolled,”

    Brooks said.

“And there was so much energy around the focus on Beyoncé, even though it was a class that starts in the late 19th century and moves through the present day. I always thought I should come back to focusing on her and centering her work pedagogically at some point.”

Brooks feels that after the 2024 election and the events leading up to it, it’s crucial to acknowledge Beyoncé’s remarkable impact on American culture, popular culture, and global culture over the past twenty years.

  • Elon Musk’s Estranged Trans Daughter Claims Trump’s Victory ‘Confirmed’ Her Decision To Leave The U.S.

Elon Musk’s Estranged Trans Daughter Claims Trump’s Victory ‘Confirmed’ Her Decision To Leave The U.S.

Elon Musk‘s daughter, Vivian Wilson, says she might be leaving the United States soon because she is worried about the future for transgender Americans now that Donald Trump has been re-elected with the strong support of her father.

“I’ve thought this for a while, but yesterday confirmed it for me,”

    Wilson wrote Wednesday on Threads.

“I don’t see my future being in the United States. Even if he’s only in office for 4 years, even if the anti-trans regulations magically don’t happen, the people who willingly voted this in are not going anywhere anytime soon.”

In 2022, Wilson changed her name and started receiving care for her gender identity. Her father, a billionaire, has criticized her choices, saying he believes she is influenced by what he calls

    “the woke mind virus”

    and that she is

    “dead”

    to him.

“Watching the grown members of my ex-‘family’ in the media/twitter-sphere recently makes me glad that I didn’t develop my genetic pre-disposition of apparently not having a fucking spine,”

Wilson wrote Thursday on Threads about her pro-Trump relatives.

    “That’s all.”

Last year, the Human Rights Campaign said that 33 transgender people were killed in the U.S. from November 2022 to November 2023, calling it an

    “epidemic of violence.”

Vivian Wilson also spoke out against those who blame minorities, like Black and Latino voters, or supporters of third parties for Trump winning the election.

“‘Blame this demographic, blame that demographic’… No. Blame the f—ing politicians and oligarchs who caused this to happen. Direct your anger towards them.”

Wilson’s billionaire father reportedly contributed $75 million into a pro-Trump political action committee (PAC), and has been vocal about his support for the President-elect. Even using his platform, X, to boost the President.

  • 3 States Enhanced Sam-Sex Marriage Protections In Anticipation Of Supreme Court Overturning Landmark Ruling

3 States Enhanced Sam-Sex Marriage Protections In Anticipation Of Supreme Court Overturning Landmark Ruling

California, Colorado, and Hawaii took steps to protect same-sex marriage in their states during the 2024 elections, as reported by PEOPLE. This decision comes after fears that the Supreme Court’s recent actions could threaten same-sex marriage rights.

On November 5, voters in these three states approved measures to amend their constitutions and protect marriage equality. This decision comes as President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance, who have expressed negative views about LGBTQ+ rights, prepare to take office in January 2025.

Even though same-sex marriage has been legal across the U.S. since the 2015 Supreme Court ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges, activists are worried about its future after the court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. In California, voters passed Proposition 3, which gets rid of the state’s 2008 ban on same-sex marriage and guarantees the right that anyone can marry, no matter their sex or race.

Colorado voters also chose a similar measure called Amendment J, which posed the question,

“Shall there be an amendment to the Colorado constitution removing the ban on same-sex marriages?”

Colorado enacted the ban in 2006, and it was never officially repealed.

Hawaii legalized same-sex marriage two years before the Supreme Court mandated it, but there was still a section in the state constitution that allowed the Hawaii Legislature to create a ban on same-sex marriage in the future. However, the year, Hawaii voters decided to remove that part from the constitution, so state lawmakers wouldn’t have the power

“to reserve marriage to opposite-sex couples.”

  • Three Women Shot In Miami After Heated Discussion About The Election, One In Critical Condition

Three Women Shot In Miami After Heated Discussion About The Election, One In Critical Condition

Florida police are searching for a gunman who shot three women during a heated discussion about the election, reports the NY Post. The shooting occurred early Wednesday morning in Miami. One of the victims is in critical condition.

“A group was drinking and talking about politics when the shooting suspect went to a vehicle, retrieved a firearm, and began shooting,”

said the police department’s spokesperson Michael Vega.

“They saw chaos and people running,”

    he said.

“Three people were shot. The woman in critical condition was shot in the abdomen. The other two victims, one of whom was shot several times, are in stable condition.”

The victims were all women in their late 20s to early 30s, as reported by the police.

“Witnesses said one of them became upset, possibly intoxicated, and returned to the vehicle to retrieve the weapon,”

    Vega explained.

    He added,

“It seems that alcohol, along with the election discussion, led this person to go to the vehicle, grab a gun, and start shooting. But this is not acceptable. We have to handle our differences and respect each other’s beliefs. We need to either reach an agreement or simply avoid such topics.”

The shooting took place on the 500 block of Northwest 19th Street. A neighbor named Suly Ashe told WFOR that she heard gunshots around 12:30 a.m. Investigators are still working on identifying a suspect. No arrest has been yet.

  • NYC Sues Companies Accused Of Using Candy-Flavored Vapes To Attract Child Consumers

NYC Sues Companies Accused Of Using Candy-Flavored Vapes To Attract Child Consumers

New York City is filing another lawsuit to put a stop to companies selling illegal flavored vapes to kids, as reported by the NY Post. Mayor Eric Adams said during a public safety briefing in City Hall.

“Price Point’s greed has been pushing nicotine on our kids for too long and today we say no more.”

The latest lawsuit is against Price Point Distributors Inc., a company based out of

Long Island. Its goal is to stop the company from selling their products and also demands an unspecified amount of money for damages and fines.

“We will not sit idly by as they continue to harm our kids, and we will not tolerate crime and disorder of this magnitude, which includes illegal sales of drugs, vapes, and other illegal cannabis products.”

After recognizing the risks of this addictive product, Mayor Bill de Blasio signed a law in 2020 to ban the sale of flavored vaping products in all five boroughs. In July 2023, the Adams administration filed a federal lawsuit against four big distributors, and in April 2024, they announced a second lawsuit against 11 local wholesalers. Both cases are still ongoing.

“By selling disposable vapes with kid-friendly flavors — such as cotton candy, raspberry watermelon, and cherry cola — defendants are putting profit before the wellbeing of young people,”

the city’s acting corporation counsel, Muriel Goode-Trufant pointed out.

Adams mentioned that they working closely with the city Department of Education to tackle this problem. Mark Rampersant, the Security Director of the DOE, said that they have nearly 300 counselors helping students who are addicted to these products and plan to actively educate young people about the dangers.

“We’re also providing counseling, support services, and counseling to our parents as well,”

    Rampersant said.

According to The National Youth Tobacco Survey,

“e-cigarettes remain the ‘most popular products’ among teenagers.”
