Costa Rican Footballer Fatally Attacked By Crocodile While Swimming In Local River

A tragic incident occurred in Costa Rica when a soccer player, Jesus Alberto Lopez Ortiz, also known as ‘Chucho’, lost his life after being attacked and consumed by a crocodile while taking a dip in a river to cool off. The horrifying incident took place on July 29 in Río Cañas, Guanacaste Province, according to Daily Mail

Disturbing images captured the father-of-two desperately fighting for his life as the crocodile carried him away in its jaws. Not too long after, the crocodile was shot and killed in the water by local residents who said they used canoes to follow the reptile and retrieve Chucho’s body.

Chucho, a member of the Deportivo Rio Cañas football (soccer) team, leaves behind two young children, ages three and eight. His grieving family is seeking public assistance to cover his funeral expenses, while his team’s manager, Luis Carlos Montes, is organizing a collection to support the victim’s family.

“We will remember you in the many facets of your sporting life as a coach, football player, and also as a family father. You will always live in our hearts Chucho, fly high friend,”

his team wrote in a social media post.

Costa Rica’s Ministry of Environment and Energy strictly prohibits the hunting or killing of protected animals like crocodiles, according to the outlet. Whether authorities will investigate the decision of residents to kill the crocodile in order to recover the victim’s body remains uncertain.

“It should be clarified that all efforts were made to rescue the body of the deceased person without causing damage to the reptile, which was not possible,”

local police said in a statement.

Nicole Mari Wobbeking, 49, got into an altercation with her mother, Sheila May Wobbeking, 78, which resulted in her death. Nicole is accused of pushing her mother down the stairs and then brutally beating her with a jar of pasta sauce. Unfortunately, Sheila did not survive the attack. Nicole was initially arrested on charges of misdemeanor domestic assault, but these charges were later upgraded to assault in the third degree when it was discovered that Sheila had suffered a broken bone.

Sheila Wobbeking later passed away at her home on July 5. Detectives are now seeking homicide charges. The incident occurred on June 27 when Sheila arrived at her home where her daughter Nicole is a tenant. Sheila entered the house and called out to her daughter with the intent to talk about Nicole’s

  • Georgia Teenager Becomes Third Victim Of Brain-Eating Amoeba In The US

Georgia Teenager Becomes Third Victim Of Brain-Eating Amoeba In The US

Tragedy strikes as a 17-year-old girl from Georgia becomes the third person this year to succumb to a brain-eating amoeba in the United States, WSB-TV reported.

Megan Ebenroth, a resident of Dearing near Augusta, tragically passed away on July 22, just 11 days after swimming in a freshwater lake with her friends. The fatal infection was caused by Naegleria fowleri, a single-celled organism that enters the body through the nose and travels along the nerves to the brain.

Megan, a straight-A student with aspirations of attending the University of Georgia, joins the unfortunate list of victims. Earlier this year, a two-year-old boy from Nevada contracted the infection after swimming in a lake, while a Florida man lost his life to the amoeba after using tap water to rinse his nose. Megan’s case marks the sixth death attributed to this disease in Georgia since 1962.

Scientists warn that as global temperatures rise, freshwater lakes are becoming warmer, creating ideal conditions for the increase of the amoeba resulting in a high risk of infection. Megan’s mother told the outlet,

“She was my world. She would tell people I was her best friend, and I would say, ‘Honey, I can’t be your best friend.’ And about three weeks ago, she said, ‘Come on, Mom, you know I’m your best friend,’ and I said, ‘Yes baby, you are.’”

The lake where Megan contracted the amoeba has not been disclosed by the Georgia Department of Public Health. However, Megan’s aunt claims on social media that she swam in Clark Hill Lake in McDuffie County, Georgia. Authorities emphasize that the amoeba can exist in any freshwater lake, river, or pond in the state, instructing people to take preventative measures.

Megan had a severe headache & was treated for migraine, but deteriorated rapidly. A day before her death, she was diagnosed with Naegleria fowleri, which causes fever, headache, vomiting, stiff neck, confusion, seizures, hallucinations & coma and is fatal in 97% of cases. Few survivors exist.

  • Armed Robbers Steal £13 M In Jewelry From Piaget Store In Paris: ‘Woman In Dress and Two Men In Suits’ Hold Staff At Gunpoint

Armed Robbers Steal £13 M In Jewelry From Piaget Store In Paris: ‘Woman In Dress and Two Men In Suits’ Hold Staff At Gunpoint

Three armed robbers reportedly escaped from a Piaget jewelry store in central Paris on Tuesday with luxury goods worth up to £13 million (16 million USD), reports the Daily Mail.

According to local reports, the perpetrators entered the store, held staff members at gunpoint, and forced them to open display windows and a trunk containing valuable items. No injuries were reported.

“Two men in suits and a woman in a dress were responsible,”

    said an investigating source.

“They calmly walked into the Piaget store and then threatened staff with a gun with a silencer on the barrel… Everyone at the back of the store was forced onto the ground, and the robbers then forced a member of staff to open the display windows, and a trunk where some of the most expensive pieces are kept,”

    they added.

“Once they had enough jewelry, the raiders fled on foot, and then possibly got on to two-wheelers nearby.”

The Paris prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation for

“armed robbery by an organizing gang and kidnapping.”

Piaget, a Swiss luxury watchmaker, and jeweler, was founded in 1874 and is a subsidiary of the Richemont group.

This incident is the latest in a series of robberies in central Paris. In March, robbers stole millions of pounds worth of jewelry from a nearby Bulgari store. The same Bulgari store was previously targeted in September 2021, and a Chanel store was robbed last year. Jewelry stores in Paris have been frequently targeted by robbers over the years, and even celebrity homes have been affected. In 2016, Kim Kardashian was robbed at gunpoint in her Paris hotel room, resulting in the theft of over £7 million (nearly 9 million USD) worth of jewelry.

  • Five High School Educators Charged With Failing To Report Abuse Of 15-Year-Old Girl, Police Say

Five High School Educators Charged With Failing To Report Abuse Of 15-Year-Old Girl, Police Say

A Florida high school principal and four staffers were arrested after failing to alert authorities about the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old student, NY Post reported.

Palm Beach Central High School Principal Darren Edgecomb, 58, assistant principal Dan Snider, 49, assistant principal Nereyda Garcia, 37, chorus teacher Scott Houchins, 53, and school behavioral therapist Priscilla Carter were all arrested for their involvement in neglecting to report the abuse.

The adults were reportedly informed about the incident on June 16, 2021, after the girl’s friend wrote a letter alleging that the victim had been assaulted by two male students, CBS 12 reported.

According to the letter the victim,

“has had many problems with guys and has been sexually assaulted by two of them,”

with the friend confessing that they had witnessed the suspects

“not taking no for an answer.”

The letter also said that the 15-year-old was suffering from anxiety and panic attacks due to the assault, which was leading her to commit

    “self-harm.”

The letter was never reported to the Department of Children and Families, which is mandated by state law, according to the affidavit. During a meeting held on August 19, 2021, a month after the assault was reported by the victim’s friend, Garcia said the student’s parents should be responsible for telling the state, according to the charging documents.

One staffer even claimed to have conducted their own investigation, concluding that no assault had occurred. However, the school did punish one of the boys. When officials asked the staff member why they moved forward in disciplining the child despite no findings, the educator replied that he was

    “aware of how it looks.”

All five administrators were charged with one count of failure to report sexual abuse and were authorized to stay away from the victim, witnesses, and students, reports reveal.

“The allegations involving students occurred off of school property and over a weekend. However, no matter when or where any alleged assault against a student occurs, our policy aligns with the law, which requires all personnel to report suspected abuse,”

    the district added.

  • Father and Stepmother Arrested After Police Find Six Children ‘Starved Beaten and Locked In Cages’

Father and Stepmother Arrested After Police Find Six Children ‘Starved Beaten and Locked In Cages’

Las Vegas Metro Police arrested father, Travis Doss, and stepmother, Amanda Stamper after finding young children locked in cages at their residence, reports the NY Post. The children were allegedly battered and starved, police say.

Upon entering the one-bedroom apartment cops found six children, ages 2-11, alone with two dogs. The 11-year-old boy along with his 9-year-old brother were both locked up in separate cages. The 11-year-old had

“two black eyes that were swollen shut, multiple marks and bruises all over his body, and he was emaciated,”

    according to police.

The boy told police he had to share the little food he was given amongst his siblings.

“He kept saying that he was always hungry and that’s why he stole, and then he said, ‘It’s food that’s in the trash, so how is that even stealing?’”

the detective said, according to a grand-jury transcript.

“And he kept saying that he needed big food because he was a big boy now and that he would have to share one large fry from McDonald’s with like all six kids and just that he was never really fed and that’s why he stole,”

    the cop recounted.

Doss, who is the father to seven children, was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month on 40 charges including child abuse, according to court documents obtained by The Post. Amanda Stamper is reportedly the biological mother of the 2-year-old child and stepmother to the others. She was also indicted and faces seven counts of child abuse, reports note.

Stamper’s public defender said she was also a victim of Doss’s abuse and feared for her life.

“If she had done anything, she would’ve been subjected to serious, serious abuse,”

they told the local outlet in June.

Doss was also a rapper who went by the name

    “Trap Montana,”

according to his Instagram posts. Police obtained images of him rapping inside luxury cars, mansions, and casinos on the famed Las Vegas Strip.

H&M Lawsuit Accuses Fast-Fashion Rival SHEIN Of Stealing Their Designs

The popular retail fashion brand H&M is taking SHEIN to court for

    “copyright infringement,”

    Bloomberg first reported.

H&M is accusing the fast-fashion retailer, SHEIN of stealing its designs

    “in multiple cases,”

according to a spokesperson cited in the report. H&M originally filed its lawsuit against SHEIN back in 2022 at a hearing in Hong Kong.

According to second-hand sources, H&M began building this case against SHEIN since at least 2021. The online fashion site is no stranger to these allegations as they were hit with a RICO charge, just earlier last week.  Three designers filed a complaint against SHEIN claiming that the Chinese fast-fashion retailer copied their designs.

In 2022, SHEIN was worth $100 billion, more than their fast-fashion forerunners H&M and Zara combined, according to Business Insider.

SHEIN is also battling the Chinese e-retailer Temu in court for infringing upon its

    “exclusive and valuable trademark,”

according to The Fashion Law. The lawsuit was filed on December 22 however, Temu has since filed a new lawsuit accusing SHEIN of a

“scheme of coerced exclusivity, threats, intimidation, and direct financial punishments.”
