  • Woman Held Social Worker Captive In Garage While She Killed Her Three Children In Murder-Suicide, Police Say

Woman Held Social Worker Captive In Garage While She Killed Her Three Children In Murder-Suicide, Police Say

An Oklahoma mother is accused of holding a social worker captive while she killed her three children in an apparent murder-suicide, reports the Daily Mail. Police say the unidentified social worker set off fireworks in the garage to try and alert people of the mother’s crime.

The social worker was reportedly on assignment to collect Brandy McCaslin’s 11-year-old daughter and was greeted with a gun to her head by the suspect. McCaslin’s confiscated the woman’s phone and locked her in the garage. McCaslin then went on to shoot her daughter, killing her, as well as her two sons, six-year-old Bryce and 10-month-old Billy before turning the gun on herself.

Neighbors reported seeing fireworks coming from inside the home at the time, which authorities revealed was the social worker trying to warn someone about the danger the children were facing.

When officers were finally able to get into the house hours later, they found McCaslin and her three children dead.

Billy’s father, Billy Jacobson Sr. told DailyMail.com that McCaslin had asked for an extra hour with their son, which he now believes she

    “planned it in advance.”

“I knew she had problems, and I was so scared something could happen like this. She planned this ahead of time,”

    he told the outlet.

“She asked me a week and a half ago, if she could have an extra hour with Billy that day. She was a very controlling person and that combined with her losing her grandparents is what caused this. Her not having control over where her kids went, it would have been a factor. She was trying to push for them to move back in with her,”

“Her grandparents would baby her through her whole life, they brought her up, gave her everything she wanted and if she got in trouble they covered for her. All it did was create a monster,”

    he added.

79-Year-Old Man Charged With Murder For Allegedly ‘Bashing’ Wife’s Head Against Granite Floor

Police arrested 79-year-old, Paul Edward Mart for allegedly slamming his wife’s head into the granite floor several times, killing her, Law & Crime reported.

Mart is accused of killing his wife Jean Harriette Mart, 77. The suspect claims he found his wife naked and covered in blood when he woke up. However, according to police, Mart called his daughter and confessed to the murder of her mother and threatened

    “suicide by cop.”

According to a medical examiner, the woman

“suffered from a gunshot wound to the head and blunt force injuries to the head.”

Mart was arrested after an hours-long standoff with multiple police agencies, including a SWAT team, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office in Minnesota said in a statement.

A criminal complaint obtained by The Wadena Pioneer Journal noted that Mart allegedly made comments that

“he remembered getting into a fight,”

“he slammed her head into the granite flooring a few times,”

    “he cannot forgive himself,”

    and

    “probably killed her.”

Mart was charged with second-degree murder and booked into the Otter Tail County Jail. He is being held on $750,000 bail.

Mart’s lawyer, Chris Cadem, told the newspaper,

“Based again on the information we’ve uncovered in the last 48 hours, we are confident that gunshot residue is going to come back on the hands of the decedent.”

    He went on to add,

“We are very confident that my client will be able to demonstrate this was in fact an accident, that this did not happen by any action or deliberate act by my client, and that he will be exonerated of this charge.”

  • Judge Caught Scrolling Through Facebook and Looking At GIFs While Overseeing Her First Trial Involving A Man Accused Of Beating A 2-Year-Old To Death

Judge Caught Scrolling Through Facebook and Looking At GIFs While Overseeing Her First Trial Involving A Man Accused Of Beating A 2-Year-Old To Death

An Oklahoma judge is under investigation after she was caught on surveillance footage scrolling through her phone throughout a seven-day murder trial, Insider reported.

Judge Traci Soderstrom, who was recently elected as a new state judge in November, was reportedly overseeing the murder case that began last month. 32-year-old Khristian Tyler Martzall, was on trial for murder after he allegedly beat his then-girlfriend’s 2-year-old son, Braxton Danker, to death, The Oklahoman reported.

Ironically, at the beginning of the trial, Soderstrom told jury members to turn off their

    “electronic devices,”

    so they could

“concentrate on the evidence without interruption,”

    according to The Oklahoman.

A ceiling security camera above the judge’s bench caught Soderstrom looking through her device several times throughout the case.

    At a certain point, Soderstrom

“checked her cellphone during a tearful testimony from the victim’s mother, Judith Danker,”

according to the outlet. The footage also shows Soderstrom scrolling through Facebook and, once, searching and sending a GIF, The Oklahoman reported.

District Attorney Adam Panter, who examined the footage after getting a tip from a courthouse employee, told The Oklahoman that the judge

“spent hours of the trial on her cellphone both texting and scrolling through social media.”

“It is both shocking and disappointing,”

    Panter told the newspaper.

“Jurors are banned from using cellphones in the courtroom during trials because we expect them to give their full time and attention to the evidence being presented. I would expect and hope the Court would hold itself to the same standard required of the jurors, regardless of the type of case.”

Martzall was found guilty of second-degree manslaughter at the end of the trial. Prosecutors were pursuing first-degree murder charges, reports note.

Man Says A South Carolina Hotel Will Only Refund Him For Mold-Covered Hotel Room If He Takes Down His Viral TikTok Video

A man took to TikTok to expose a South Carolina hotel that refused to refund him after he discovered mold and filth all over the room.

Brooks Strickland, who goes by thelilp500thatcould on TikTok has since garnered over 300,00 views on his video. The father said he had booked the Ocean Star Hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina last minute after a beach day with his family.

“I don’t recommend anybody staying in that hotel and really, it needs to be shut down until they can fix these issues,”

Strickland says in the video. He then goes on to show the horrifying scene. In the video, Strickland records the mold on the bed skirts and comforters, water droplets dangling from the ceiling, a stained bed, and a toilet that he says is

    “pissed all over.”

According to Strickland, when he brought his concerns to hotel employees they refused to refund him although he stayed in the room for just 10 minutes. Since posting the video, Strickland said the hotel owner contacted him offering him a full refund if he takes the video down. However, the owner said he would only give a refund under the condition that he takes the video down in

    “15 minutes,”

    after their phone call.

Strickland declined the offer he told a local NBC affiliate.

“It just makes it look like it’s been going on for so long that they can just pay their way out of it, you know?”

    Strickland said.

“If I was to say yes, how many other people have done this?”

  • New Florida ‘Black History’ Curriculum Teaches Slavery Had ‘Personal Benefits’

New Florida ‘Black History’ Curriculum Teaches Slavery Had ‘Personal Benefits’

A new curriculum for African American history certified by the Florida Board of Education includes a lesson that teaches slavery had

    “personal benefits”

    because it taught slaves

    “useful skills,”

    according to the NY Post

The Florida State Board of Education’s new standards will teach students how

“slaves developed skills which, in some instances, could be applied for their personal benefit,”

according to a 216-page document posted by the Florida Department of Education.

Tallahassee Democrat and board member Ben Gibson said he received letters from 11 organizations, including the NAACP and the Florida Education Association, accusing the state of exploiting

“key historical facts about the Black experience.”

However, according to Andrew Spar, president of the union, the curriculum is meant to do the opposite.

“How can our students ever be equipped for the future if they don’t have a full, honest picture of where we’ve come from? Florida’s students deserve a world-class education that equips them to be successful adults who can help heal our nation’s divisions rather than deepen them,”

    Spar said in a statement.

The news comes after Gov. Ron DeSantis’

    “Stop WOKE Act”

in 2022, which oversees the content educators teach in schools and workplaces.

“Gov. DeSantis is pursuing a political agenda guaranteed to set good people against one another, and in the process, he’s cheating our kids,”

    Spar said.

“They deserve the full truth of American history, the good and the bad.”

  • Grandparents Beat 5-Year-Old Girl To Death With A Belt For Soiling Herself

Grandparents Beat 5-Year-Old Girl To Death With A Belt For Soiling Herself

Chicago grandparents were charged with murder after brutally beating their 5-year-old granddaughter with a belt for defecating on herself, NY Post reported.

Klent Elwoods, 62, and his wife, Lisa Jones, 57, were arrested for the July 14 killing of 5-year-old Jada Moore. According to prosecutors, the toddler was put through two months of constant beatings. Causing,

“severe contusions most commonly seen in car crash victims,”

    reported CBS Chicago.

The grandparents reportedly had custody of the 5-year-old girl, according to a notarized letter from the mother giving them control over school and medical decisions, police obtained.

The grandfather, Elwoods, called 911 around 11 pm, admitting to a dispatcher,

“I was beating my little granddaughter and now she is out of it,”

prosecutors said. When officers and paramedics arrived at the scene the child was unresponsive,

“lying on the couch completely nude,”

reports state. EMT performed CPR and air transported Moore to Comer Children’s Hospital. She was pronounced dead early Saturday.

While riding in the back of a police cruiser, Elwoods allegedly told officers, unprompted,

“I was a little too rough with my grandbaby.”

The grandmother told police that her granddaughter

“had a history of ‘pooping’ on herself,”

and that Elwood promised to beat the child the next time it happened.

“Elwoods then grabbed a belt and had [Jada] bend over. Elwoods then proceeded to strike [Jada] on her buttocks between 10 and 12 times,”

the report stated. The grandmother said the child fell to the ground after each lash.

According to the autopsy the little girl had

“bruises, abrasions, and scars in various stages of healing,”

    all over her body.

They both were charged with first-degree murder.

  • Cancer Patient Wins $18.8M From Johnson & Johnson In Baby Powder Trial

Cancer Patient Wins $18.8M From Johnson & Johnson In Baby Powder Trial

California man wins $18.8 million lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson after alleging he developed cancer from exposure to talc-containing baby powder, a jury decided Tuesday per the NY Post

Emory Hernandez Valadez, 24, told the court that he developed mesothelioma, which is an

“aggressive and deadly form of cancer,”

according to Mayo Clinic. The tumor reportedly spreads to the lungs, stomach, heart, and other organs causing chest pains, shortness of breath, and other deadly symptoms. Valadez said he suffered from heart issues due to

“heavy exposure to asbestos and other carcinogens”,

    reports reveal.

Valadez, who sued the company last year, was awarded $3.8 million in economic damages and $15 million for noneconomic damages.

Mesothelioma is incurable and carries a life expectancy of 18 to 31 months, according to Mesothelioma.com. Most lawsuits over J&J talc have been delayed, however, due to Valadez’s diagnosis, US Chief Bankruptcy Judge Michael Kaplan allowed his litigation to proceed.

The NJ-based company denies being the cause of Valadez’s prognosis and said they plan to appeal the verdict. Erik Haas, vice president of litigation at J&J, told the outlet that they have evidence, that they were not able to present in court, to prove their innocence.

“Without the benefit of that evidence, the verdict is irreconcilable with the decades of independent scientific evaluations confirming Johnson’s baby powder is safe, does not contain asbestos, and does not cause cancer,”

    Haas said in his statement.

The company announced in August that it would be discontinuing the talc-based baby powder globally in 2023.

  • Nebraska Teen Sentenced To 90 Days In Jail After Burning Fetus Following Illegal Abortion, Prosecutors Say

Nebraska Teen Sentenced To 90 Days In Jail After Burning Fetus Following Illegal Abortion, Prosecutors Say

A Nebraska teen was sentenced to 90 days in jail after getting an illegal late-term abortion with her mother’s assistance, reports Insider

Celeste Burgess, 19, pleaded guilty in May to

“one count of removing, concealing, or abandoning a dead body,”

as part of a plea deal according to News Channel Nebraska Central. Burgess who was 17 at the time had help from her mother, Jessica Burgess, to abort her fetus at 24 weeks.

The 41-year-old mother had provided her daughter with abortion pills to induce a stillbirth in April of last year. In Facebook messages sent from the teen to her mother

“she talks about how she can’t wait to get the ‘thing’ out of her body,”

a detective wrote in court documents.

“I will finally be able to wear jeans,”

she says in one of the messages.

Celeste had reportedly lied to investigators claiming she had miscarried and had a burial for the baby. However, according to Tanner Barnhill, 22, who was an accomplice in the crime, the mother-daughter duo tried to burn the fetus before burying it on his parent’s property.

    The mother pleaded guilty to

“providing an illegal abortion, false reporting, and tampering with human remains,”

    Insider reported.

Before the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in June, states were allowed to perform abortions up until the fetus is deemed viable outside the womb,

    “at roughly 24 weeks”

(6 months). The Nebraska abortion limit has since been decreased from 20 to 12 weeks in May this year, according to PBS.
