Drunk Driver Who Took A Photo Going 141 MPH Before Deadly Crash That Killed 8-Month-Old Boy Imprisoned For 17 Years

38-year-old Darryl Anderson, intoxicated while driving his Audi SUV, took a photo of his speedometer while speeding towards the vehicle in front of him. According to AP, the photo of the speedometer showed a speed of 141 mph as well as a light indicating a collision warning. Moments later, he crashed into the car, resulting in the instant death of two individuals including an 8-month-old boy, and injuries to another. Anderson did not apply the brakes, reports mentioned.

Anderson was given a 17-year prison sentence on Tuesday for causing the fatal crash in northern England. The incident resulted in the deaths of 8-month-old Zackary Blades and Karlene Warner. Anderson pleaded guilty to two counts of causing death by dangerous driving in Durham Crown Court last week.

The surviving victim, Shalorna Warner, who tragically lost her young son and sister discussed the terrifying moments of the accident in court. She recalled her vehicle spinning, witnessing her sister’s severe injuries, and desperately searching for her son, who was hurled out of the vehicle. A trucker who had stopped to assist discovered him on the opposite side of the road.

During the investigation, Anderson falsely claimed that a hitchhiker was driving during the accident. However, the prosecutor revealed that a roadside breath test indicated Anderson was significantly intoxicated while driving. Furthermore, an empty vodka bottle was located in his car. Witnesses later confirmed that he had been driving recklessly for a distance of 20 miles and his phone records showed that he was texting.

  • Black Man Files Employment Discrimination After He Was Forced To Changed His Name On His Resume To Get Interview

Black Man Files Employment Discrimination After He Was Forced To Changed His Name On His Resume To Get Interview

A Black man in Detroit, Michigan, has filed an employment discrimination lawsuit against a hotel. He claims that the hotel only considered him for a job interview after he changed his name on his resume. The lawsuit was filed by Dwight Jackson on July 3 against the Shinola Hotel. Initially, he was denied a job when he applied under his real name. However, he later received an interview opportunity after changing his name to “John Jebrowski,” per CNN

According to the suit obtained by the news outlet, Jackson claims that he was denied a job, which is said to be in violation of the “Michigan Elliott Larsen Civil Rights Act.”

From January to April 2024, 27-year-old Jackson applied for various positions at the Shinola Hotel in downtown Detroit. Jon Marko, Jackson’s attorney, who is a civil rights lawyer said, “Mr. Jackson had applied for a job that he was eminently qualified for.” Despite being qualified, Shinola Hotel failed to contact him back regarding an interview.

In April 2024, Jackson decided to reapply to the Shinola Hotel after not receiving any response to his initial applications. This time, he used the name “John Jebrowski” and submitted nearly identical resumes. The lawsuit alleges that he was offered numerous interviews within a week.

According to the suit, “Jackson established that the Defendant’s consideration of candidates was based on the racial appearance of the applicant’s name.”

A spokesperson for the hotel said in a statement,

“We take this allegation very seriously and do not tolerate discrimination of any kind.“

Marko stated that Jackson went to the job interview and confronted the interviewer. He disclosed his true identity and expressed his belief that he was not given an interview initially due to his traditionally African American name.

  • Rikers Island Detainees Were Reportedly Locked Inside Their Cells During Fire With Officers Slow To Respond: Lawsuit

Rikers Island Detainees Were Reportedly Locked Inside Their Cells During Fire With Officers Slow To Respond: Lawsuit

A recent lawsuit claims that multiple detainees at Rikers Island were trapped in their cells and dormitories amid a fire, resulting in distressing conditions. The lawsuit reported by Gothamist claimed that at least 15 individuals struggled to breathe, choked on toxic smoke, and some even lost consciousness amid the 2023 fire, per WPIX

    According to the suit,

“For inmates in the custody of the New York City Department of Correction… exposure to smoke from fires is a regular occurrence because of the malfeasance, deliberate indifference, and reckless disregard of human life.”

The lawsuit reveals that the detainees affected were in the North Infirmary Command, an area known for its strict lockdowns. When the fire occurred on April 6, 2023, it took officials approximately 15 minutes to respond, and there were no functioning sprinklers.

Attorneys argue that despite correction officers witnessing the fire, it took nearly 30 minutes for any detainees to be removed. Shockingly, some detainees who were exposed to heavy smoke were never vacated, and they claim that their requests for medical attention were bypassed.

The city’s Department of Corrections has taken steps to enhance fire safety in jails.

The lawsuit, filed as a class action suit against the City of New York, New York City Health + Hospitals, and several city officials, will be examined by the Law Department.

Teen Dies After Jumping Into Electrified Lake During Visit To Virginia

Sadly, 18-year-old Jesse Hamric of Colorado tragically lost his life while visiting friends in Virginia on Independence Day. He jumped into an electrified lake near Roanoke, according to the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, per WDBJ

Hamric’s friends realized something was off when he entered the lake. Two of them hopped in to provide aid but felt electric shocks due to stray voltage from a nearby dock. Despite them suffering from minor injuries, they still managed to rescue Hamric and performed CPR until help arrived at close to 4 a.m. WDBJ reported that the water was tested by fire crews and electricity was detected. Officials determined that the source of the electricity in the water was a stray voltage that came from a dock located in a nearby home.

The teen was transported to the hospital and later declared dead. The 18-year-old’s death is being analyzed as an accident.

The person who owns the house where the electricity was coming from has been informed about what happened. They will need to get aid from an electrician to repair the issue with the voltage.
