Fur-Real? Cat Caught Smuggling Drugs into Prison in Costa Rica

In an unusual drug smuggling attempt, prison officials in Costa Rica intercepted a cat carrying narcotics into the Pococí Penitentiary last Tuesday night. According to a statement from the Costa Rican Ministry of Justice, the feline was spotted scaling a barbed-wire fence with packets of drugs strapped to its back.

Alerted by a guard stationed near the perimeter, officers swiftly captured the animal before it could enter the prison grounds. A video shared by the Ministry showed the cat being carefully detained.

The packages, containing approximately 236 grams of marijuana and 68 grams of heroin, were removed from its fur using scissors.

Pococí Penitentiary suspects the cat was used deliberately to traffic the drugs to inmates. Alongside the narcotics, officials also discovered sheets of paper commonly used for drug wrapping.

As reported by BBC News, the cat was turned over to Costa Rica’s National Animal Health Service for evaluation. The Ministry is currently reviewing surveillance footage to identify who was behind the smuggling operation and which prisoners may have been the intended recipients.

This bizarre case has sparked concerns over increasingly creative tactics being used to breach prison security.

  • Texas Man Dies After Bee Attack While Mowing His Property

Texas Man Dies After Bee Attack While Mowing His Property

Steven William Daniel, 66, from Cisco, Texas, tragically passed away on April 27 after being stung by bees, according to an incident report obtained by USA TODAY. The Eastland Police Department responded to a call about a vehicle crash and found Daniel surrounded by bees.

Officers rescued him from his truck and placed him in a patrol car while waiting for emergency medical services. During the ambulance ride, Daniel became unresponsive and later died from circulatory collapse caused by the bee stings.

Although Daniel was not allergic to bees, the severe reaction led to his death, as explained in the report. Circulatory collapse occurs when blood flow to vital organs is critically reduced.

Daniel’s wife, Cyd, shared with Texas local stations KTAB/KRBC that her husband was mowing a property they owned when the incident occurred. Despite years of tending the land without issues, this time proved fatal.

She described Steven as a safety-conscious, quiet man with a good sense of humor. Cyd hopes their tragedy serves as a warning to others.

Less than two weeks later, a separate bee attack involving Africanized honey bees killed three horses in nearby Comanche, Texas, as reported by USA TODAY. Experts advise staying calm around bees and removing stingers promptly if stung, as Texas enters its busy spring bee season.

Chicago Woman Accused of Stabbing Her 7-Year-Old Son After He Made a Mess in the Home She Had Cleaned the Previous Night

A 26-year-old Chicago woman, Llovana Torres, faces a felony charge of aggravated battery to a child after allegedly stabbing her son early Saturday morning, reports Fox 32.

Chicago police said the incident occurred at their apartment on the 1700 block of West Touhy Avenue. According to prosecutors, Torres awoke to find the apartment messy and flew into a rage, striking the child repeatedly.

When the boy tried to hide under the kitchen sink, she reportedly grabbed a knife and stabbed him multiple times after failing to pull him out. Hearing him scream in pain, Torres brought the injured boy to her mother’s apartment downstairs.

Her mother insisted that she take the child to a hospital. The boy was first brought to Evanston Hospital, then airlifted to Lurie Children’s Hospital due to life-threatening injuries, including a punctured diaphragm. As of Monday, he remains on a ventilator.

An 11-year-old relative told authorities that Torres had earlier threatened the boy. At the hospital, Torres allegedly admitted to the stabbing and later told police she had been waving the knife and accidentally stabbed him.

While in custody, Llovana Torres reportedly called her mother and asked her to lie about the events. Authorities recovered the weapon, and Torres is being held without bail ahead of a June 13 court date.

Authorities in New Orleans discovered a disturbing scene, leading to the discovery of Charles Hainsworth’s corpse earlier this month after a neighbor reported an open door and stray chickens outside a Lakeview home on Argonne Boulevard. According to FOX 8 Live, police responding on May 7 found the residence filled with piles of trash, feces, and signs of severe hoarding.

Inside, officers located the mummified remains of 31-year-old Charles Hainsworth. His 73-year-old mother, Barbara, was later found nearby and informed police that her son had died nine months earlier. She said he suffered from schizophrenia and a brain tumor.

As reported by NOLA.com, sources revealed Charles Hainsworth weighed over 600 pounds at the time of his death. An official cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

His body was removed for examination, and his mother was taken for medical evaluation. City code enforcement deemed the home “horrific,” citing unsanitary conditions, including structural damage like a hole in the bathroom floor.

  • 11 People Charged for Creating and Distributing Disturbing Videos of Monkeys Being Mutilated, Tortured and Killed

11 People Charged for Creating and Distributing Disturbing Videos of Monkeys Being Mutilated, Tortured and Killed

Federal authorities have indicted Carter Fawcett and 10 individuals from across the U.S. in a disturbing case. It involves the creation and distribution of graphic videos showing the torture and killing of baby monkeys.

The Justice Department unsealed the indictment on Friday, revealing that the suspects, including 27-year-old Fawcett, paid for content produced overseas. The content was specifically created by a minor in Indonesia.

Investigators said the group directed the minor to carry out horrific acts, including mutilation and sexual violence against monkeys. One video, described in the indictment, showed a baby monkey violently killed and returned to its mother.

Authorities labeled the material “animal crush videos,” which are banned under federal law due to their extreme nature. Fawcett reportedly made multiple payments to Nicholas Dryden of Cincinnati, Ohio, via Telegram.

Dryden, who was previously named in June 2024 along with a New Jersey man, faces additional charges related to child sexual abuse and the distribution of illegal content.

The defendants, hailing from states including Arizona, Pennsylvania, and New York, are charged with conspiracy and face up to five years in prison. CBS News reports that Dryden and his alleged co-conspirator face up to 27 years due to the nature of the crimes.

According to the DOJ, the indictment of Carter Fawcett and the 10 others is part of a broader investigation into a growing online network facilitating such cruelty, drawing concern from animal rights groups and law enforcement alike.

  • Compton Family Sues Funeral Home After Workers Misplaced Their Loved One’s Body and Dressed Another Corpse in His Clothing

Compton Family Sues Funeral Home After Workers Misplaced Their Loved One’s Body and Dressed Another Corpse in His Clothing

A Compton family is suing Harrison-Ross Mortuary after a devastating mix-up during funeral preparations led to a stranger being dressed in their loved one’s burial clothes.

Amentha Hunt had entrusted the funeral home with arrangements for her 80-year-old uncle. But when she returned to view the body, she was shocked to find a different man in her uncle’s suit.

“I just stared,” Hunt told ABC7 News. “It wasn’t him. He wouldn’t have changed that much in color or appearance.”

Despite her immediate concerns, Hunt says staff initially dismissed her. Only after she showed a photo did they acknowledge the mistake, asking for more time. The family waited three hours before the correct body was presented.

To this day, Hunt doesn’t know whose remains were mistakenly dressed in her uncle’s clothes. The family has filed a lawsuit, citing emotional distress and negligence.

“For a mortuary to deny the obvious and delay resolution—it’s unacceptable,” said family attorney Elvis Tran.

In response, Harrison-Ross Mortuary has denied wrongdoing and plans to issue a cease-and-desist letter to Hunt, according to WCAX.

“It still haunts me,” Hunt said. “I can’t unsee the wrong man in that suit. It was supposed to be my uncle.”

Woman Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Her Son for Being Too Loud While Playing Video Games

A 72-year-old Mesa woman, Hazel Benson, has been arrested after allegedly shooting her son during a dispute over noise from video games, according to police and court records.

The incident occurred around 8:50 p.m. Saturday near Higley Road and Main Street. Mesa Police say Benson’s 38-year-old son was shot in the abdomen but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Before the shooting, officers had responded to a noise complaint at the home around 7:45 p.m. Benson was reportedly frustrated with her son for being too loud while gaming. Police informed her he had legal residence there.

After the initial visit, the son went for a walk to calm down. Upon returning, an argument escalated. Benson claimed her son lunged at her with clenched fists, prompting her to fire a gun, though she wasn’t sure if he had been hit. She later admitted to discarding the weapon in a nearby canal.

The son was found outside with a gunshot wound, and Hazel Benson was arrested shortly after. She now faces charges including aggravated assault, disorderly conduct, and unlawful firearm discharge.

  • Texas Teens Could Be Logged Off for Good Under New Social Media Ban

Texas Teens Could Be Logged Off for Good Under New Social Media Ban

The Texas Legislature is advancing a bill that would significantly limit minors’ access to social media. House Bill 186, sponsored by Rep. Jared Patterson (R-Frisco), passed the House with bipartisan support. It’s backed by a Senate committee.

The bill prohibits anyone under 18 from creating social media accounts on platforms like TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat, with companies required to enforce age verification by April 2026.

Sen. Adam Hinojosa, co-sponsor of the bill, emphasized concerns about children’s online safety during a recent committee hearing. The bill also allows parents to request account deletions, which companies must fulfill within 10 days.

Websites that allow user-generated content fall under the ban, while news and sports sites remain accessible. As of June 2024, ten states, including Texas, have passed laws limiting minors’ social media use. However, Texas would enact the strictest rules nationwide.

Meanwhile, Senate Bill 2420, which requires parental consent before minors download or make in-app purchases, is headed to Governor Greg Abbott. Despite support from lawmakers citing mental health risks linked to social media, teenagers and critics argue the ban could harm youth athletes and creators. This is because some of them rely on these platforms for careers and connections.

Click2Houston reports concerns over First Amendment rights have also been raised. Opponents warn that the law could face legal challenges similar to past Texas social media regulations.

  • 2-Year-Old Girl Nearly Dies After Swallowing Fourteen Toy Magnetic Balls

2-Year-Old Girl Nearly Dies After Swallowing Fourteen Toy Magnetic Balls

A young girl, Rebecca McCarthy, from Basildon, was left fighting for her life after swallowing 14 small magnetic toy balls. This issue has prompted renewed warnings about high-powered magnets sold online.

McCarthy, a toddler at the time of the 2021 incident, was rushed to the hospital after falling ill. According to the Echo Paper, doctors performed a two-hour emergency operation. The procedure involved temporarily removing part of her intestines to access the magnets.

The magnets had fused and embedded in her tissue. Her mother reported months of ongoing health issues following the traumatic experience.

Rebecca McCarthy’s case is among approximately 300 similar incidents in a single year, according to new research from the University of Southampton. The study, conducted across 66 UK hospitals between May 2022 and April 2023, found that 10% of children who swallowed magnets required life-saving surgery.

Items involved included magnetic toys, imitation piercings, and household objects. The Sun reports that some cases were linked to social media trends where children, mostly girls, mimicked tongue piercings.

Professor Nigel Hall of Southampton Children’s Hospital urged parents to act quickly, warning that children often show no symptoms after ingesting magnets.

The Child Accident Prevention Trust commended the study, highlighting the severity of injuries caused by magnetic toys. The organization cautioned consumers to be vigilant when purchasing products online, warning that not all items meet safety standards.
